When we visit a new county; we want to see all the sights, explore all the regions, and eat all the foods. This means that, naturally, we often get things slightly wrong on the first try. When we first arrived in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, we tried one of the National desserts: cendol! Not only did we pronounce it wrong, we ate it the wrong way (and also decided to have our cendol with durian which was probably too advanced!). In this video, we finally get our hands on a true local Cendol from Melaka (or Malacca)! All the right ingredients, the original flavour, the perfect dessert street food on a hot day! Before this, we also eat some amazing local breakfast and COFFEE!

  1. For a durian lover, I do not take durian with cendol together either haha… They are both good to me, preferably eaten separately because I enjoy their own individual taste. 😁
ps: red kidney beans are usually the regular ones. These are exceptionally big.
Have you tried ice-kacang? They are very similar but ice-kacang has a lot more stuffs underneath all the shaved ice. And yes, you need to mix them well too.
(I usually love to have the rose syrup + gula melaka together with the evaporated milk and ice-cream on top)

  2. 7.90 for the drinks and roti..🤔🤔
I guess around 2.50×2 for drinks = 5 , and 3 for 2 roti…hmmm..expensive for Malaysian..btw I wish you'll enjoy and having a good time in Malaysia..and do please manage your financial wisely..coz I guess you will spend much money here coz it just more thing to do .more thing to explore..regards to you both..

  3. The difference between Asian and western coffee are Asian they use robusta bean and roast with margarine until it burnt. It is bitter to drink on its own, so usually sugar/sweet condensed milk has to mix in to cover the bitterness.

  4. Glad that you’re enjoying your visit to this part of the world. Discovering whats left of the colonial past is one of my favourite pastime as a local especially when there were several different powers that exerted their influence here.
Im a die-hard durian lover but would not think of having durian with my chendol……but, like they say….different strokes for different folks😁

  5. You should try the proper CHENDOL in Penang – it is located at the Jalan Penang – Lebuh Keng Kwee corner. It is the best. Also In Peneng try to look for Ondeh Ondeh, Kueh Talam, the Him Heang Tambun biscuit, Prawn Mee, Char Koay Teow ……..

  6. It's great that you tried cendol again. But I hate to be the bearer of bad news. That is not the original cendol. I am sure it tasted great, but it looks like ice cream with cendol taste. Basic cendol is very simple. It consists of coconut milk, gula melaka( palm sugar) and the cendol ( primarily rice flour dough with pandan coloring) served with shaved ice. What you just had looked like baskin robins version of cendol. Anyway, nothing wrong enjoying the savory version of cendol. Have a nice day!

  7. We will make sure to try this yummy dessert when we visit in August! Also, this desk looks great! We have been travelling/working for 3 months and we know how useful it is! Great video as always

  8. I always eat roti Chenai for dinner with fork and spoon (I'm left handed). I cannot eat rice for dinner for some health reason. There is no specific rules in terms of eating in Malaysia.

  9. Kopi ( Malay ) = Coffee & Tiam ( Hokkien dialect ) = Shop! Love your Foodie & Drink journey in Malaysia! Stay Safe Guys! 🕯🌷🌿🌍💖🕊🇲🇾🇸🇪

  10. We discovered you guys through Paddy and really enjoy your energy and enthusiasm. Can I just say there are a lot of comments and scrolling through, you reply to every single one of them. That’s passion and dedication right there 👊🏼

  11. Roti canai is usually served with fish curry gravy (my favorite) and/or dal curry gravy. Some places have more options of chicken curry gravy and mutton curry gravy. Sambal is usually given but some places may not include sambal but if you like roti canai with sambal, you may ask the waiter if they have sambal and request for it.

  12. Another lovely video from you guys full of information about Melaka, which though is not on my Malaysia itinerary beginning 7th of next month, but it feels good watching your naturally flowing presentations. Penang is on my list, so looking forward to your next video. And yeah, on your India visit, whenever that happens, I would love to see you over a cuppa tea or an lunch at my place. I m based in New Delhi. And keep on sharing your travelling experiences with the ever growing subscribers but sticking to your own spontneous style of presentation. Thank you.

  13. The coffees were different because the 'white' coffee is roasted differently compared with the typical one. See this https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ipoh_white_coffee. Originally from the town of Ipoh, it is now world renown. Malaysian coffee are generally too sweet especially when you have it from a typical local mamak shop. The locals usually ordered it "kurang manis" and "kurang-kurang manis" for less sweet variety.

  14. I hate so much when customers are served roti canai with the gravy plate is placed on roti canai. Very unhygienic…its normal for foreign workers to do such thing…jilaker betul

  15. If you’re trying cendol for the first time ever, please don’t try with the durian cendol. Unless you have tasted durian fruit and have liked it prior, then you will love durian cendol.
Otherwise you should start with the original regular cendol for its authenticity.
