During the renovation of our Portuguese farmhouse we discovered an issue: damp, moisture and water ingress – particular in one corner of the house on the lowest part of the land.
Having uncovered this, we put into place some (temporary) guttering to direct rain water away from around the perimeter of the building – eventually we’ll capture this in some large tanks and use it for irrigating our garden. The guttering has helped in the long term but it was not a complete solution.
Join us for a special kind of episode where we flashback to events of the past so you can get up to speed with our situation, what we’re doing about it and why.
And then, join us in the next video to see what we’ve been doing more recently and if we’ve finally fixed the damp problem!

Strawberries 😋
Must admit to slight itch myself 😀. Doing a great job guys.
What teases you are! Can’t wait to see what else happened in the meantime.
🌟👍🍀💐
We had a similar problem. Solution foamed glass and Limecrete floors; French drain around the house; hacked off all cement and lime rendered and pointed.
Well done for all the hard work and good ideas! Don’t forget to add a few inspection manholes to the underground rainwater pipes!! These can get blocked very easily, cheers and looking forward to your progress
You two are so impressive on your work and knowledge of it all. I love watching you two.
She’s a machine.
Great flashback! Looking forward to seeing Sats video and how it’s gone!
My knowledge learnt from you on damp, drains, lime and natural walls is coming in really handy at the moment. We are in the process of buying as old stone Cornish house and I’ve read the survey this week and seen things like damp linked to walls not being able to breathe, minimal foundations, lack of damp proofing course and a guttering down pipe that doesnt link to drains without panicking and believing it’s all fixable, all helped by knowing I have a husband that runs a property improvement business and is used to working on Cotswold old buildings, so whilst I will have to muck in I won’t be taking on Kylies role. She is a Wonder Woman 😀
The home function engineering is what I love , I wouldn't be surprised if when the home was built the outer earth works were created to drain away in the first place but over a hundred years and dumb renovations the earth all fell back up around the house. I live on a farm and every year it is visible that wind and rain push manure dirt rock etc against at least one wall of our home. And over a hundred years we could get four feet of drainage problems from just normal earth movement. You are not alone 🥰

What's wrong with a mini-digger ? They come at 100€ a day and do more in one day then you could do in two weeks 🙂
I was so sad when you changed channels because it took awhile to find you again. But now that you are back i so love following your progress. At some point in the future will you be introducing your neighbors? Being from the states i enjoy watching and learning and meeting new people (so to speak)
the music track is louder than the dialog track, alas.
You guys are amazing. I am quite impressed by the amount of labour kylie puts in to the projects. She is indeed an ispiration.
Awesome. Saw you first vid when you bought your land and then left for a few months. Would be nice if you said it was a problem with the house purchase/renovation others could possibly face too or just some yt issue 🙂 But of course its your free choice. Keep it up!
Kylie is the best!! That mammoth digging is no joke….I would probably need at least a week to recover🤣🤣.
You moved 30 tonnes, you actually moved more like 150 tonnes. Nothing gets moved once, every shovel full gets moved over and over before it reaches the storage pile.
Enjoyed the flashback and have been waiting for when you move back inside doing works! can’t wait for next video and see if it worked, so hopeful as keen to see rooms coming to life
Great video, very informative. My house in Italy is an old, stone house built on the mountain slope and part of the back wall is almost 2 metres deep into the mountainside. No damp, though.
I had a team of local architects come to appraise the place to see if I could grab some government grant money to improve the "thermal performance" and they wanted to cover the entire place with polystyrene insulation. Incredible, it would turn the place into a pond! In the end I got all new windows and doors installed and will be getting a photovoltaic system added all at 50% of the cost. And will continue to use solutions appropriate for the type of building that I have.
You've obviously done some proper surveying and research and come up with the perfect solution to the problem. Looking forward to the next stage of the works.
A mammoth task to which i admire your tenacity in carrying out the excavations. Query , could life be have made easier simpler by hiring a mini 360 backhoe and dumper truck ? Your a formidable lady who should not be argued with ! 🤣. Great video of works !
I'm shattered watching you dig 🤣
Great flashback video!
Bardzo prosimy o więcej filmów. Pozdrawiamy

As a 'newbie' to your channel, I appreciate the catch-up, thank you. My goodness, you two work so hard, especially Kylie!! You remind me of when I was a younger fit woman. I'm looking forward to hearing whether all your hard work was worth it. All the best. From Australia. 👋🌈
Laying the groundwork, literally to ensure problems are nipped in the bud.
Kylie's trench is a masterpiece.
That is going to be one stunning property.
