Would you live in a castle? Many people dream of living in a medieval castle, with its centuries-old architecture and sweeping views of the countryside. But living in such an ancient structure comes with its own set of challenges.

With its thick stone walls and drafty windows, living in a castle can be quite cold. You may think that it’s a dream come true living in a castle, but there are definitely drawbacks.

In our opinion, Marvão Castle is one of the most beautiful and best-preserved castles in all of Portugal. Perched on top of a steep hill, the views from its ramparts are simply stunning.

Despite its age and lack of modern amenities, we believe living in Marvão Castle would be an amazing experience. It has plenty of space for living and working, as well as lots of potential for restoration. Its historic charm is truly unmatched and if only the weather was great all year round we would live here for sure.

  1. If you own a dog, the problem with Pousadas is that they allow only smal dogs up to 15 kilos. We managed once to stay in Serra da Estrela beautiful Pousada, with our 35 kilo Golden Retriever. But in the following year the rules had changed. So check every Pousada and hotel before you book.

  2. You guys!! That take on the history of the village was absolutely brilliant!! Thank you for showing us places we would otherwise never know in our own country.

  5. I considered unsubscribing (jk) when I saw Joen with a Porto shirt. But I decided to stay when Amelie said: "You know tapas is a spin-off to the Portuguese petiscos "

  7. Marvão is a very beautiful historical castle and mountain village in the Alentejo, with great food, great landscapes and a wonderful river beach to enjoy in the summer. Congratulations for this video!

  8. Hi there, you guys are amazing and show part of my country in such a funny way, love it! 👍 My parents are also from Alentejo, from Serpa but Marvão is my second favourite place in there. I'm glad you love Portugal, thank you! ❤

  9. Thanks for the video. I have been wanting to visit Marvão for some time now. I'd prefer to visit with sunshine. I'm a true summerchild, as beffting somebody with full alentejo ancestry.
Alentejo, a portuguese province the size of Belgium, has Monsaraz, Marvão and Odemira with cool perserved castles. Montemor-o-Novo also has a cool castle to visit. The regional capital city Évora has an entire old city placed inside medieval walls.
Alentejo is such an underrated place in Portugal. It even has a coastline eith beaches longer than Algarve!

  10. Marvão is wonderful, the portuguese eagle nest castle. And the park of Serra de São Mamede is very beautiful, also Castelo de Vide, Portalegre, Avis, the roman ruins of Ammaia… it's a very different Portugal, that one, far way from the main tourists places, but full of charming and hiden gems like that restaurant. And Alentejo food is wonderful, as you know. Great video!
