We start to take down the walls of our abandoned farm we bought in Portugal. The outbuildings will be converted into living quarters, starting with this room which, will be a guest room. We explain why we need to do it this way in this video.

  1. Andrea, look at my vegetable garden ideas episode, it has such cute ideas, with nice design. I think the one with cement bricks in a beautiful design will look great. I don't have a picture, but with small cement tiles over the top holes of those bricks makes it look like a wall.

  2. great job, makes my back ache just watching you work. never mind, it's going to be a work of art. speaking of art, your waterolors are very nice.I do that as well, but find it difficult to control where the color goes. practice, practice. your walls are getting nicer and hopefully will become a dream homestead.! Have a wonderful week.

  3. Those plants with the berries are also known as poke weed here in the US and while they are toxic to mammals to consume, birds love them so they are a good food source for them. And you can dye textiles and make ink from the berry's juice! (acknowledging that I'm commenting on the least remarkable aspect of the entire video )

  4. I always feel like I have received a gift any time I get a notification of a new video from you guys. You all accomplished so much and work so well together, it is a pleasure to watch. It was a bit suspenseful and I was holding my breath for the wall to come down without anyone getting hurt! BTW I hope you keep the castor plant. When I lived in the Caribbean there were very productive castor plantations. There is a demand for castor oil and especially the raw unprocessed oil with the ash. Look into it. I have no knowledge or research to back this up but would like to think that animals instinctively avoid poisonous plants.

  5. Having your vegetable garden close to the kitchen or certainly close to the main buildings is essential for keeping an eye on things. It’s also easier to just pop out and get a lettuce or some herbs, rather than having to trek to the bottom of the garden. Also if you have a wild boar problem, you’ll have to fence it or they’ll have your carrots. Raised beds will also help keep beasts away and keep it tidy. Interested in how your project develops, buena suerte! 🍀

  6. In the future it might be easier for clean up if you place large tarps on the ground to make removal of the rubble away. Much of it will need to be removed by hand but the dirty remnants could be dragged away on the tarps. Please stay safe during the demolition process. God bless.

  7. Oh wow that was tense. So worried someone would get hurt. 🫣 a big task ahead of you.
Amazing how much better it looks now though. you have achieved so much.

  8. I noticed that you started using cement on your stone walls and that’s a big mistake! You need to use lime mortar so the walls can breath or you will end up with moister and mold issues. There are several YouTube videos on this topic, you should really watch them before you continue. I was really happy to see that you are saving all of those beautiful antique roof tiles! They are actually valuable because people doing authentic
restorations don’t want a bright orange brand new roof.

  9. I did notice your fella was flicking the mortar…don't see that very often, but have seen it on some YouTube channels. Did not know that is was a Portuguese skill. I have been amazed at the accuracy that these guys can flick their mortar. Big progress…you are working so hard. Be sure to take care.

  10. What a massive difference, well done to you all.
Looking forward to seeing the website & the carrot cake recipe 😊
Portugal is full of cats & dogs looking for someone nice to live with, your poor cat might be happier if the gorgeous black dog doesn't hang around though.

  11. Great progress on your ruin! You might consider fencing in your vegetable garden using the old wood or tree branches & wire fencing to keep the wild boar out. As for copyrighted music, you can always add uncopyrighted music over it in editing. That way you can put the camera/cellphone on a tripod recording while they work & have some footage. I hear other YouTubers say that's what they do.

  12. Great work and accomplishment. Muito bom trabalho ! 😊

    What happened to the dog?

I’ll be looking at your new website – what’s the name The Indigo Escape ?
    Yum yum 🎂
    Take care guys!
    🌷Sam
