Quinta da Regaleira
Quinta da Regaleira is a massive castle that was once owned by a Portuguese business man and Freemason… according to the story he inherited a lot of family wealth and came back to Portugal from Brazil to build his mega mansion. The grounds has a church with some unique design, amazing gardens, and an INITIATION WELL! Wtf this is not your regular historic stop wondering around an old castle like everywhere else.
The minute you walk in, you can feel the differences. Not to mention the extremely strict camera regulations.
Walking the 27 flights of stairs down the initiation well that then leads to an under ground tunnel was truly something out of a mystery book. You can not help your brain running wild wondering what actually went down in this place.
Something else that is fascinating is Sintra is a micro climate so in the gardens and around Quinta da Regaleira there are over 200 species of trees planted and thriving all together.
Sintra Portugal is for the economic elite, with some of the most expensive real estate in the whole country it truly is a place one has to see.
I found Sintra very interesting because there are parts that survived the 1700s earthquake so you can see the pure age of some of the buildings.
This adventure totally reminded me of why we are traveling in this first place. There is so much we don’t know and still so much to discover. Of corse we can always watch Netflix and youtube to learn but experiencing things for yourself is truly what life is about.
