For wealthy Chinese fleeing pandemic lockdowns and political stress from the CCP, Portugal is a great destination using the investor visa, which allows entry throughout the EU – for about $357,000 (350,000 euros).
This advantage has attracted thousands of Chinese over the past decade. At its peak in 2014, the Portuguese government received $1 billion in investments according to Bloomberg.
According to Portugal’s golden visa statistics page, from 2012 to date, more than 10,900 main applicants have been granted a Portuguese Golden Visa, with more than 17,900 dependent family members having gone with them.
The largest number of applicants continue to be from China every year since the launch of the Golden Visa Program.
However, according to Bloomberg, this wave is disappearing.

so they jump from the frying pan into the fire … as a resident in Portugal here's the stats Portugal currently imports more than half of it grain needs .. if that were to stop our agricultural sector would not be able to compensate due to mass desinteresse in the sector for years, Portugal also has no internal industry per say, it became a resort nation where our only income comes from tourism and guess what people dont do on pandemics and global recessions … they don't travel, so as you can quickly come to understand portugal is on the verge of colapse, we lost small businesses, hotels, etc just the past 2 years, we also have a generational gap caused by dumb politics that led a full generation in their 20s to leave into the rest of EU, that has made population decline a real problem, so coming here, while better than a dictatorial regime is by no means safety and securing your future. also expect racism cause older population, also the whole tourism thing made this weird industry that specialized on deceiving foreigners so that is still much a thing and if you worry about heat waves ha … our summer makes heat waves look like child play 3 to 4 months of temperatures reaching 40 to 43 Celcius constantly and its only getting higher has global temps increase.
