For those seeking a move from the US to Portugal, VFS Global is the service that handles your visa appointment for the three Portuguese consulates in the US. Wait times may vary greatly, so if you are thinking of moving to Portugal in 2023, you may want to start the process now.
We live in Hawaii and had planned on moving in with family in Florida while we do our paperwork and appointments. We want to cut ties with Hawaii completely. You mentioned not moving into a hotel for the last 30 days. We would actually formally be living with family and change addresses to thier home. The intention is to stay with them while doing a scouting visit and paperwork. Would that make a difference?
We just got our visas. D7. Went thru San Francisco. It was a bit less than four months from appointment to approval.
It's even worse actually waiting for the Visa. I'm waiting for almost ten weeks and there may be a strike at the consulates for 6 weeks. I already have a rental and I have to go. But, I may not get my visa in time for the move. I will have to come back to the US for my visa. It is not a good system.
I think our strategy is going to be to just retire next year, head to Portugal for a month or two and buy a property somewhere, then head back to the US and handle the Visa. Pain in the rear but is what it is.
I've heard that San Francisco VFS will not precede paperwork if you are planning to move more than 90 days past your appointmemt. How am I supposed to plan my move date if I'm not going to get my Visa within 90 days.
Thanks for the video. What about Boston? Do you know how long it takes to get appointment and apply through Boston, MA embassy?
