What Will €100.000 Get You in Central Portugal – 1173

I am looking for a house with some land in Central Portugal, the Castelo Branco district. at the moment I am looking for houses that works,, meaning they have a roof, water, acces and stuff. And as I live in a flat country Denmark,, I would love a mountain views 🙂

I am not planning to move to Portugal full time, at the moment, but spending a few month there every year to start with, and then later it might be more. (I have a very nices job, that I like)

I was joined by Lea, from “𝗢𝘂𝗿 𝗣𝗼𝗿𝘁𝘂𝗴𝘂𝗲𝘀𝗲 𝗛𝗼𝗺𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗮𝗱” –
Must admit that I had a really good time, also chatting while driving between houses.

The real estate company was (in Castelo Branco)
and these were the houses in the order we saw them, in the video.

  1. I would go for the first house. Definitely needs work and there is a lot to do, but you have a lot of land plus all the out buildings which would be so useful.

  2. My take on the houses: #2 and #3 were okay, but nothing to write home about. #4 will be shitloads of work with the garden. As teenager, I had to take care of 800m² of garden and it consumed all my summer holidays. 6000m² will be a job of their own. One might of course split up the ground and sell part of it or build a second house there.
…or just leave it to someone who wants a farm. Probably the best option.
I am totally with you with #1 having the nicest view and overall size and whatnot when it comes to the lot, but the house itself seems to be done with. The amount of mould on the kitchen ceiling was shocking. As the visible mould is only a minor part of the actually present spread of the mycelium, the entire ceiling of that room probably is affected. Aspergillus Niger, the black mould, produces cancerogen fumes, so at the very least the entire plaster needs to come off the walls and ceiling in that room to solve the problem, although I doubt this problem will be confined to that one room. All the spots of light visible under the roof inspire little confidence in it being waterproof. In Portugal's windy and wet winters, loads of water must have found a way in through the leaks in that roof!
Depending on how much give there is in the price asked for that real estate, I wonder if there is enough headroom in the budget to buy it, knock down the old house and build something modern and well heat insulated for both summer and winter in its place. If there is, that might be a favorable option.
I guess the lot without the house on it would be a better offer in the end.

  3. Great that you are looking for a place in Portugal. I am Belgian but living in Portugal for 25 years. Portugal is absolutely a wonderful country to live in! I hope you find a place you like!

  4. Nice video, I'm looking a house in that region for similar price :). I have enough living in a big city with lots of people and cars.

I was not expected such video that's why thumbs up 🙂 Thank you for this. I did not realize that there can be found such nice houses with plots in normal price. I noticed that they have verry small windows 🙂 I think that this is because a heat 🙂

    I can't wait for more videos 🙂

  5. Went looking in my country and found 150 parking spots and 1 house in that price range. And its only 2 hours away from work! 1h 34m from nearest large town with 25k people. Still was a nice house though, kinda want to look into remote work opportunities now.
