Nice interview I would love to talk with Michael to get more information
I have to be careful listening to people who have a huge love of travel. They make it sound exciting because it is to them. But I'm much less in love with travel. I have to be careful of thinking I would relate.
To those questioning how he got his medicationsfor free in the U.S. on Medicare: As a low income resident of California, he qualified for Medi-Medi, which is a combination of Medicare and MediCal, so he had no co-pays or deduction.
HEY' GUY'S SO WHERE IN THE WORLD ARE YOU GUY'S AT? I'M SAIGON/HCMC, WAITING ON MY EXIT VISA, AND EITHER HEADED TO THE PHILIPPINES OR MALAYSIA HAVEN'T MADE UP MY MIND, SINCE WE'RE WELL IN TO THE HOLIDAYS, I'D TO WISH YOU AND YOUR SPOUSE A VERY MERRY CHRISTMAS AND A WONDERFUL NEW YEAR, FULL O HEALTH HAPPINESS AND MORE TRAVEL! YEAH!
In 2010 I decided to move to Baja. Everybody warned me about the violence. The only problems I've had were with americans and canadians. Some people bring their problems here and turn into Karens. I can make it on $1,000 a month or less but I'm not a spend thrift. I bet free basic medical and certain meds, but for operations or expensive drugs I have to pay, but it's not expensive. A lot of places for rent here have no hot water or any way to heat and I was surprised and how cold it can get here in the winter, 45' is cold to me. Also, Baja is very humid in the summer which I didn't expect bcuz it's desert. The locals are really great people and I don't regret moving here, but it's not for everyone. Where can you live in Calif for $1,000 a month?
I wish he would get rid of that fake palm tree background.
He's so full of life!

How does Brazil compare to the Philippines?
I've seen lots of expat videos, but this man is certainly the happiest with his move that I've seen. Thank you for sharing this. I'm thinking about moving to Santa Catarina or the northern part of Rio Grande do Sul. I love the European culture, low crime rate, and beautiful mountains and beaches. The exchange rate right now is excellent. My parents are Brazilian, so I'm a shoo-in.

thank you so much for the video, it confirms my suspicion of a good life can be in Brazil. I was in Sao Paolo like 3 months ago for work there for a week. Of course in the big city it is nothing like the better part of Brazil, but I definitely fall in love with the people and the language.
Excellent experience about Brazil for Michael. I love traveling and I strongly believe that if you are from NY you would make everywhere.
Michael seems to me a very nice person who is not afraid of interacting with different cultures around the world. That is why he feels at easy
in those environments. My name is Darío Mendoza (USA). I wish for vagabond and Michael the best now and beyond.
Great video about living in such a beautiful place as Brazil with low budget ! i was amazed to find out about that
Afghanistan
I am on a 6 week trip to Brazil and spent time in the Bahia NE area … just wondering what city he lives in …
Hi how are you I’m Brazilian who live in South Carolina and here one I needed an tooth implant here was 50000 dollars and I went to Brasil on vacation and there I paid in Brazil 200 dollar for the same implant; tha for Sharing the video and now I’m thinking to go back to Brazil when I retire here🤪👏👏👏👏🌟🙏God bless you 🍀
I have lived in Brazil for 10 years now and it wasn’t as inexpensive when we moved here in 2012, my wife is Brazilian and we were transferred here with her job, plus we have two kids, so it’s a different experience than Michael, the dollar was only worth $R1.60 to the Brazilan Real, it is now worth over $R5.20, so things here are 1/5th the cost of the US and the food is great here, the weather, the doctors and dentists and people are great too, the difference we have is we have private insurance which is far better than US health insurance, no copays, no deductibles and everything paid at 100% as well as dental insurance too, but he is right too about the public health system here, it’s pretty good if you need it for certain things, the other difference is we have our kids in a private Brazilian school which is common here amongst Brazilians because Brazilians believe the public schools aren’t good, it can be expensive depending on the school, our kids are in a medium priced school, so the cost is about $1,200 US per month, that’s our biggest expense, my wife already owned the apartment we live in here in São Paulo which is like Michael’s, all amenity building with a pool, gym and courtyard and playroom for kids as well as a space to have parities. We only pay a condominium fee which is $267 per month, the upside is there are public universities here which are virtually free, so paying for private elementary and high school usually gives you a better chance into getting in one of the public universities. Even the private universities are a lot less expensive here than in the US, approximately $3,000 – $6,000 per year US, also, we live in São Paulo which is the most expensive city in Brazil and we live in a neighborhood which is the equivalent to Greenwich Village in NYC. Michael is correct about the bureaucracy here, like all Latin American countries, it is mind numbing. I have an American friend that’s the same age as Michael and he married a Brazilian and moved down here in 2017, his income here is the same as Michael’s, he lives off his monthly social security. So, he’s spot on about costs, at least for now, if the economy gets better here, that will change back to what it was like 10 years ago. He’s also right about the safety in Brazil, it’s highly overblown and even by Brazilians sometimes. I’ve never been mugged, only had my phone snatched, which is the most common type of robbery here and it’s generally delivery guys on motorcycles called motoboys here.
Love this guys energy ❤
He DOES look great. I thought he was at most in his mid 50's. He's a beautiful 68.
what about dental?
So how do you retire in Brazil if you have to leave for 6 months???
Nobody wants to see all your tampon commercials let us watch the 3 seconds and then hit the skip button please! Fat girls in tampons on commercials do not go together you went woke and now you are going to go broke
Wow, witb 2k you could have a hooker 3 times a week
there are milions of brazilians who live on less than 300 a month
Fantastic interview with a charismatic story teller 👍
Great interview! 👍
Great interview! I have travelled around the world for most of my life and for the last 6 years I spend Jan-Mar somewhere in the world. Keep up the the great work as I add where you have been to help me make my decision of where to go next.
I want to move there within 1 year!
Question of Michael: Do you pay Medicare Part B? Thanks!! You gave me a big chuckle on "only foreigner in your city"!! haha. Love it. My city of 5,000? I am the only white guy (Gringo). I took a friend to Mexico hospital for a cut that need stitches: When I offered to pay, they laughed me out of the place!! haha. TY for great vid.
Is some of the video on loop? 😆
Love, love, love this video!
In 9 years of travel & 50+ countries, Brazil has never appealed to me. Now, I have to go visit!
Thanks for opening another can of worms for me! Lol!
Bullshit $500 if you do nothing.
This was one of your best vlogs
He reminds me of an actor. Ill come back with the name. I think it's the guy from what about Bob. Lol the dad.
If your girlfriend said, "I'm not in the
mood for Curry veggie tofu for lunch. I want a juicy cheeseburger." Would you A. Be upset with her carnivore diet craving. B. Give her the silent treatment for the rest of the day or C. Order take out and have wild sex on the balcony? Answer wisely, Mr. Vagabond.
This 68 year old man is full of life. I wish I knew more people like him. I lived in Latin America for 7 years as a young teacher, and became fluent in Spanish. I will go back to live there when I retire soon. LIke this man, I am still trying to figure out which country. Peru is high on my list.
Very encouraging. US is getting very sucky and cost of living is going up, up and up. Good video.
Hi Dan…just a comment…. I am nearly on the same page as Michael. I moved from Cabo Frio to a mountain city in the state of Rio de Janeiro. I have a huge house with a 'carriage house. My total monthly expenses are $775.00 I could easily drop this by renting a small apartment. I just enjoy having the yard.
$500 a month although looking his figures he is existing not living! still that is very good if his living in a modern condo. im paying $500 a month 25,000 pesos for a modern condo in Manila although that includes bills.
Great Video thanks for sharing.
Nice interview Dan. Living in Tokyo, did an MRI few months ago. Cost was $80. Also get my teeth cleaned four times a year at around $20, and cavities filled are in the $50 range. Personally, I like healthcare here, and yet taxes are 18% (according to my CPA). Just so glad I don't have to deal with the US medical.
You consistently work hard to ask meaningful questions which is much appreciated.
Brazil and it’s people are fantastic- worth exploring. As Michael said so alive and vibrant. Been there for 2 longer visits. Would consider Brazil but have safety concerns. I liked michaels comment about don’t be a victim of the media
AWESOME interview guys. I needed to hear/see this one.
This guy cracks me up. 🤣
