We went to a small coast town close to Porto in Portugal called Matosinhos. This place in the past had more than 50 canned sardine factories in operation and today only two have survived in the business. This fish is part of Portuguese cuisine, in addition to being cheap and presenting a high nutritional value.

We visited Conserva Pinhais, one of the few companies which survived the time, selling canned sardines nowadays mainly to Scandinavian countries, also in gourmet shops and online.
