How centuries of division built one of the most unequal countries on earth.

For decades, South Africa was under apartheid: a series of laws that divided people by race. Then, in the 1990s, those laws were dismantled. But many of the barriers they created continue to divide South Africans by skin color – which in turn determines their quality of life, access to jobs, and wealth. Racial division was built into the fabric of cities throughout South Africa, and it still hasn’t been uprooted.
That’s partly because, while apartheid was the culmination of South Africa’s racial divisions, it wasn’t the beginning of them. That story starts closer to the 1800s, when the British built a network of railroads that transformed the region’s economy into one that excluded most Black people — and then made that exclusion the law.

Ya because those people living in the rural areas isn't from Cape Town, most of them came from Eastern Cape then they want basic services the Western Cape. Unnecessary strain on the Western Cape government, and in those areas crime is off the charts!
Yes jesse lee peterson–Black people had it reeeeeel good
Do they have Scientology? Sad
Just look at the comments white people try to justify their wrongs with making people of color feel like they are nothing like they haven't been here for millions of years
Get the whites out of the confident
Poverty is big business…
Thank you…
It’s still mind boggling that Africans let foreigner decide there future 😅
This is very simplified and from an American perspective.
It is all about rich and poor.
Thats what happens when you have an open border policy ne?
I AM BLACK AND I SURE DON'T BLAME WHITES AFTER WHAT I SAW THE BLACKS DID. I USED TO SUPPORT THE MOVEMENT BUT NO MORE. LOOK AT WHAT THEY ARE DOING TO POOR MIGRANTS FROM AFRICA. NO SYMPATHY FROM ME. IN FACT I WOULD LIKE TO SEE SOUTH AFRICA RETURN TO WHITE RULE AND APARTHEID.
If we could reverse everything so that America was a black country and whites where slaves, I truly believe white people would still be slaves to this day. And we would be segregated like this all over.
Zimbabwe solved this problem.
Segregation occurs naturally…
Leave a continent of POC alone and it will develop no cities but slums. Put some POC in any neighborhood in a developed country and it will turn into a slum within 20 years
5-6 children per generation and a generational span of 17 Years is one of the reasons for it.
Look Asian…. China is incoming… Scary
South Africa has been in rapid decline since blacks took over
اللهم اهدنا وعصاه الانس والجن وكل الذريات

Lol you guys that report on SA,and know fokol about us,it's gonna be fun to watch you report in about 6 months, enjoy neah
I see many racist comments both from black and white people. This is the fault of both the ANC and apartheid government. But mostly because of our current government today
Corrupt government+insatiable greed=economic segregation
Mandela was NO hero. He failed when He got power to change things. Fire is only quenched with fire. I feel the pain of black South Africans
this it not obvious?
Thank god for it. If it wasn't, all the whites would be murdered because they are vastly outnumbered these days and the government takes their weapons.
ahhahahahahahahaahaahaahaahaahaahahahahahaahaaha i love My Country Kosova
Well that's a easy one
As a 64 year old white South African who grew up during apartheid and chose to change it by voting for change in two referendums, I confirm that the content of this video is accurate and true. But our problem today is a corrupt racist government that uses the old apartheid sadness daily to incite the masses. This makes everything stand still around the past. Meanwhile, the officials steal the state money and investments from overseas that are supposed to help the poor people. The bad living conditions is to be blamed on the South African Government and political leaders that mislead the people!
Whites are the reason why in South Africa there is still running water, electric grid is working, buildings are not falling down…
Its not so much racial segregation as class segregation. But the white population make up most of the upper class, while the black population make up most of the lower class. Mainly because it is easier to hold onto wealth within family units because kids get better education and opportunities. It isn't present racism but just the consequences of past racism. All of the political leadership in the country is made up of black South Africans.
It is just a stark reality. There isn't any solutions to it. There is some sentiment to get whites to payback their past debt, but the degree to which that has happened has just meant more whites leaving the country and to some degree since most of the high-educated professions are white that has just meant the country is being broken down economically.
