Why USA Software Engineers Make 10x More Money (Vs. India, EU, etc.)

Software engineering salaries in the United States seem to be an order of magnitude higher than other countries. Why is this? Why doesn’t the market value the same job at the same price everywhere in the world? Why are software developers paid so much more in the United States than any other country (India, EU, etc.)?

  1. As a Senior Automation Engineer in Serbia, I am making a 33.000$ a year TAKE-HOME salary, so around 2800$ per month. This is not much comparing to US, but if you take everything into account this is really good. In Belgrade (capital of Serbia), one bedroom apartment is around 600$, or around 120.000$ if you want to buy it.
Our Software Engineer college is around 700$ a year, but there is a lot of room for paid scholarship (last year 100 students, 50 of them got paid scholarship). If we say that internship salary is around 700$ per month TAKE-HOME, you are paying your college loan (if you even get one) within 4 months.

Most important thing is that you are getting a lot of other benefits with that salary. 27 vacation days + 8 days if you are blood donator per year. As a parent, women gets 3-4 months of paid leave in pregnancy and 1 year after she give birth for total of almost 1 and half year of paid leave.

Conclusion : Salary is not the only benefit that you need to look before you agree to start working somewhere. 🙂 Sorry for the longer comment

  2. Cost of living is for sure is an important part regarding to salaries but the most important thing is what can you able to buy with the money that you can spend because most of the gadgets and needs are USD based mostly. For example if you earn $2k per month and your cost of living is $1k you can barely buy anything with that but if you earn $8k and live for $4k you are left with $4k which you can do a lot. Cost of living is 4x times more whereas your power to buy something is 4x more.

  3. Hey Conner! I just completed my Bachelors in CS here in India and I am a US citizen living here for around 20 years. I am thinking of moving back to the US and start my job search there but I am worried about the current situation there bcoz of recession. I have been learning front end (reactjs) and your videos have been very helpful. Help me! Thanks in advance 😃

  4. As a medior developer trying to find my way in my carreer these videos are super helpful, thank you ⭐️ especially the part about benefits gives some perspective, since the US has pretty bad employee protection and benefits but high pay, and where i live we have pretty great protection and benefits, but way lower pay.

  5. Ramping up the videos with animation now – I dig it. People spend too much time comparing….including myself. It's hard to be fully content/happy when you're constantly looking at what others are doing.
