Why We Are Not Nomad Travellers – The Strain And Stress

A home base provides so many benefits for traveling a lot. We are fortunate at being able to afford to keep an apartment while traveling for up to six months per year, this is why we are not Nomads.

Belonging to somewhere is a great psychological feeling, knowing you have a corner in the world to call your own, people who know you and care for you. This relives the stress of constantly moving, finding AirBnB apartments or hotel rooms, working out which country you can afford to go too and how long you can stay.

  1. Oh wow Teen, your hair looks beautiful! Love you guys! My husband and I are always happy to see your videos come out on Saturdays and if we don’t get a chance to watch them together I put my earbuds in Monday mornings while I’m at work and listen while I get some work done. 💕👍🏼💕

  2. Yeah but the 3 months limit that's because you are brits and Canadian and the UK left EU. I'm still EU citizen/ Canadian so I could still spend the rest of my life in any country of the zone if I wanted so. (But I won't because my kids are in Canada and I could not live too long too far from them).

  3. I can’t imagine traveling all the time without a home base … you always give great advice on many issues .. I know some decide here in the states to get a travel home and are all over . To me that would get old . No place like home to hang out on the sofa ! Lol have a great week you two😊from small town in USA 🇺🇸

  4. I so agree. I love travelling but coming home and knowing your space is there for you is so special. You have to belong somewhere and my husband and I don't look to make friends on trips. Of course we talk to people but we are comfortable with just us two.

  5. Just wondering: comparing an apartment vs a house, have you been much frustrated by noise coming through the walls at all hours?

Your content is very much appreciated! Thanks!

  6. We have been full time rvers for over 3 years. We never stopped travelling even through COVID. It is the best way to travel because you are completely self sufficient.

We will wave to all you travellers standing in an airport line up for hours as we drive by. Sorry I had to take a poke.

  7. Again a wonderful video (love the coral top Tina) and Norm – cant see you as much of a couch potato🤣 What came to mind listening and reading comments was how wonderful that we are all created different and how a home base to each of us can take on a variety of shapes and sizes. Bottom line – the word stress at retirement shouldn't be a factor in any home base or one should make adjustments the same as one works on their annual budget. Life is too short so we must enjoy where we put our feet down. Keep smiling, Happy Canada weekend and take good care❤

  8. I really enjoy watching your videos and have leant a lot. I have been looking forward to my retirement and a month before my family passed away suddenly leaving me alone. Would it be possible to help when one is left on there own? I understand its a difficult topic. Keep up the great videos.

  9. I have a slightly different take on traveling overseas and returning to home base. I was deployed to lots of places overseas with the US Army. Tours of duty varied from several weeks to 12 months; a full 99.9% of the places the Army sent me I would NEVER pay to travel to. To top things off, the natives did not speak English and on several deployments the natives were shooting at us!!! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣!!! The accommodations were often a tent or in a .5 Star Hotel with bed bugs!! Nasty dirty places!! Coming home to the USA after one of these deployments was always a relief 😅!! The only positive from these deployments was I was being paid by the US Government (in the rank of Colonel-06) to be there!!!! Now I just travel with my wife to civilized places like the UK, China, Japan or the EU (forget Africa, the Middle East, South America, Central America, South Pacific, Southeast Asia, India).

  10. We made the decision to maintain two homes in retirement. We spend 6 months in each one and rent then out when we aren't there, which covers all our housing expenses.

  11. I enjoy your channel. Do you live in a regular apartment or a 55+ community-type apartment (with activities)? Did you ever consider a village cooperative where you own a share that appreciates? Maybe you could do an episode comparing different places like these to live after selling a house.

  12. I'm with you two! I've seen videos of folks pursuing the nomad life, traveling all the time and each time I see one, I think, "how exhausting"! I like having a base of operations to return to.

  13. Hi Tina, Hi Norm,

Like many commented here, traveling full time is not for everyone and it will eventually catch-up especially those is retirement due to age and chronic health conditions. It’s always feel nice to come home even from a 5 star luxury hotel stay. Canada is a great and stable country and we are fortunate to call it home. But I am sure your community beyond our borders also live on many other great countries feels the same.

You guys look great, healthy and thanks for another video for our Saturday entertainment. Love you both and cheers.

  14. Never a traveler, didn't like it since my 20s. Always think it is a big marketing scam by the hotel, airline etc etc to make $$$$, bit cheese off they hijack the word 'holiday' imply one must travel somewhere else to have a relaxing time off a stressful job, but you come back more stressed !!!!

  15. You guys rock! I love the combination of British and Canadian humor plus that realism with a dash of romanticism.
One request: I am considering a vacation to London, England. Can you do a video covering issues for older people going to London on vacation. One issue is accommodation in London. I was considering staying in a hotel ( say in Oxford ) and then travel by high speed train between Oxford and London. Alternatively, I am thinking of using the Underground and getting to end of one of the lines and staying in a hotel there. Would this be more cost-effective?. I live in Toronto and migrated to Canada around the same time like you two.

  16. I envy your attachment to home. I never quite feel like I belong anywhere. I guess that's why I was a cultural anthropology major in college. (A lot of us with that major would say that we have that in common.) I really enjoy watching your videos each week.

  17. Guys love your videos.. in fact I always click like before the video even starts – agree with most of what you say with the exception of the 90 days in Europe – with as much as yall like Portugal, you can spend 3 months in Schengen Europe then go to Portugal and I believe ask for 3 more months more as long as you do not leave Portugal – Last summer we spent 100+ days in Europe in and out of Schengen – visited Switzerland, Bosnia, Servia in addition to Italy and France. You can do a short side trip to many other places such as Egypt, Malta, Morocco etc… We also do love coming home after any trip whether 3-4 weeks or 3-4 months. We are also in our 60's. Anyway keep the great videos coming. If ever in Houston give us a ring.

  18. We've been nomads for 3 years now. While I miss having a "home", I am still totally enjoying not having any responsibility for a house/apartment. We keep saying that we are going to settle down someday, but only after we find that "place" where we want to die. We did get trapped in Bulgaria when Covid shut down Europe, but we enjoyed settling down and calling that place home for a while. In the end – to each his own. Keep up the good work!!

  19. Hi both
    I agree with you
We all like our homes I would hate to be travelling all the time
That would be so much stress for us
We haven’t been away again this year perhaps next year we will
We have bought smart watches today so we can track
    We’ve had a good 4hours walk today
Take care have a good weekend and see you next week xx❤️❤️❤️❤️
