People are seeing your new home as if they had bought it themselves. As if they are living and breathing the Portugal air
This is sparking ideas of their own dreams in this little beautiful home.
So inspiring for those that are wishing for what you have……
Dream on my friend and take all suggestions in stride and a pinch of salt.
Do what you have dreamed with this old home that you have been contemplating about for the past months.
Dream on till it comes to reality!!!!
Can't wait to see and hear about all the plans. Do you have any drawings of these ideas yet to show us?
It's going to be a great project of life. I long for the day to start my very own project and get back to nature and tranquility. All the best.
When you have it all drop to bottom and cleared out, then is the time to do the septic…I don't see what room you have for that??? Where will the drains for septic go?? Very tight. Too tight. Also most Portuguese houses have no insulation..Hempcrete is natural, cheap, just hemp and lime. It's fireproof and blown in. Steel roof may be cheaper and easier than clay tile. Goes up faster. Dude, this a lot of work. I mean a lot. Months or more. At least you started. There are a couple of sawmills in area that can custom cut beams. Eucalyptus is naturally insect repellent. Or just make bucket of borax, same stuff you do laundry. Get bucket and spray wet soak beams before you mount them…then DRY… Keep bugs from destroying them later.
Make box out 2×4 and pallet on bottom. Tarp around large steel or plastic bucket on top 🚿 on top and you got portable shower. Composting toilet out back. What is on back of house. Never showed.
Take chainsaw to rotted beams in patio. Careful let them fall. Chop up. Burn them. Clear and put tent in patio. And door out plywood keep people out. Get box to lock up valuables… So you are more comfortable… It's a long process.
Why move the weeds. Make small pile in patio area….and just burn them. Until weeds gone. Just keep pile Very small.
Also you can extend up and get a loft out of the deal, large bedroom up there. Up to waist high and roof above bathroom in middle drop pipes down middle and down to outside. It won't look like you have upper rooms but you will. You can put extension out back and build proper house without changing facade.. widen window. Add window and make concrete lintels..so square. As for exterior. Lime Crete. And lime stucco. Super easy to make.. use protection for eyes, gloves etc. Allows stone to breathe, and cheap. Stone will look super white such as Irish house, or french house. Lasts centuries .
Extend house, put kitchen on bottom. With stairs up, door to garage, use jackhammer to chip giant stone until it straight and flush, square with wall. So you have flush walls. Smaller jackhammer, handheld to get in between stones blast them away, leaving space for mortar. Fill the cracks untill wall smooth between Stones. NEVER cement. Wall needs to breathe. Water must not sit on stones. Drains in front line of wall so water away from house+ under floor drains. Before!!! You put floor otherwise you will absolutely regret it later. Moisture wicks up stone and black mold appears..go look up black mold Portugal and see for yourself… Now, while everything is exposed is the time.. and cheaper…if water is not managed correctly then you will have big problem later. Also lime mortar after repointing. It's a long process…the lime is easy to make. Allows stone to dry. Also if you put new beams you widen the existing holes after you chainsaw. Then slide new beams of wood trunk squared off, or.. steel then seal in place with concrete….start at the roof. Remove tiles save them for garage. Car doesn't care. Rethink the side patio.. NO…extend house to side. More rooms. And garage under where the weeds were. Then giant patio extend out back on piers… Looking down mountain…
Get camper and park in front. Effluent into septic.. box plastic water containers. Chainsaw, start at top chainsaw so it drops down. You will have to lay new beams anyway. You can't reuse anything. Rotted.
Remove the stairs in front house, curve it down so you can drive the car under patio as a garage. If steps were not there, grade with tractor and put calcada over again, save stones, then you can drive car in. Extend house over patio so add extra room. Patio in back.
Great job… 👍🏻
That looks like a big job! What a progress, nice to see.
