Beijinos e abraços,
Carissa, Iwan, Frankie & Albi
Carissa, Iwan & Frankie decided one night over a bottle of wine that moving from North Wales to Portugal would be a good idea. Within a month they were on the road to Portugal to find the perfect piece of land to call their new home. We picked up Albi the cat along the way. Subscribe to follow our journey as we turn an old stone barn into our home, and learn the ropes of looking after a piece of land to make an abundant garden and one day, our very own winery.

Hi thanks for the vlog great news about rescuing the dog . Sorry about the car .
Could I ask a question about your life off grid ? Are you residents of Portugal ? How easy is it to find land that is suitable to live on as I’ve heard a lot is not to be lived on permanently .I also have a sausage dog that will be moving with us . Thank you for your time in making these videos showing the good and bad side of living off grid xx
Hi both, Ewan thank goodness for your good hearing, so happy you saved the dog. Loved how your cat likes to help with cement making lol lol. Have sent you a few coffees to help towards car! Just Sorry it can’t be more. Xxx sending love fingers crossed you get car sorted soon. 🙏🙏🙏🤞🏼🤞🏼🤞🏼 xxx just an idea, how about doing a wish list on Amazon, of things people could buy for you to help you out. It could be anything from cat/dog food, chicken wire – anything. I’m sure people would be only too willing to help – I would! You both work so hard and are so genuine you deserve a little help xxx
It is amazing how similar the plants are here in Southern California are to your homestead in Portugal. As you were pulling weeds I recognized the plant with the spiky seed pod as one that grows in my yard. I will give them to my hens and see if they will eat them in the future. The gazanias grow well here as long as the gophers leave them alone. Your land is beautiful and your garden will do well in that climate. Blessings.
And what about warranty???once i told you i can probably help you with the price of the parts !just tell me what you need and what car and maybe i can get a better price and a better mechanic either!!!
House is coming on nicely 🙂 I did want to ask if you have any long term plans re 'drinking water' and whether you will continue with picking up from the local source or do you have plans for a more time-efficient method?
I would also ask perhaps for a video on your 'rough' plans for the house over the next year. It would be good to follow the vision and plan.
Thank goodness you heard the dog. We recently rebuilt our well wall after having fears of our dogs falling in it. Definitely put our minds at rest. Keep up the good work 👍
I learned that lesson the worst way. You must check the timing chain on every used car you buy, even if the overall condition appears to be good. sometimes people "forget" to replace it every 60.000 km or so, or simply doesn't remember to point it when selling.
Just thoroughly enjoy your videos on your journey in Portugal. Keep it going.
Since the kitchen wall is very “wavey” would you consider plastering the inside walls with lime mortar instead of cement mortar ?
Ewan’s voice is so quiet, it’s hard to hear him, especially at the beginning – Sorry about the car 🚗 I hope it lol works out for you both x
Oh no that poor little dog 😢 thank goodness you were there that day, Iwan. I hope your car and van troubles haven't got you down, I can definitely sympathise – we had our car all packed up to move out of our house (first step to hopefully buying our own land in portugal) and it chose that day to die on us, making an already difficult situation almost impossible! But we overcame just like you will – keep smiling and take care 🙂 xx

Nive one
You did a really nice job on the chicken coup out of pallets! Really like that you are creating on a budget , inspiring !! One question for your Q&A is how will you cut a door thru the wall into the other building that might be your living room and bedroom if you concrete the stone wall up? Will you have to cut thru all the layers? You had a brilliant plan to buy the land for a small amount of and just see how it goes for a year, then sell it or stay and keep going with life there. Especially at such a young age when you're able to do all the hard work. Really smart, not many young people think about jumping into a home project until they're older, and it's much harder. You're going to have a wonderful place and your doing a great job. It's so nice to see it evolving and your always learning new skills. It's good to include the challenges you face as well. Overcoming and pressing on is part of the process. Congratulations on almost 10k subscribers, you are inspiring to many people.
Idea have you look at Wind Turbine for the sunless days that tied into your batteries …So you batteries charging wind the sun when sunny…..when no sun its wind spowered best of both worlds
Love your videos, I’m really enjoying following your wonderful story!
I really enjoy watching you draw, Carissa. And Iwan, so glad you were able to rescue the dog! Always look forward to your new videos.
"Pardon my french." … more like pardon my British! 😆 it's not a swear in America. 😛
Nick from Project Portugal has been such a godsend for you hasn't he. I think he has been a godsend for a number of people. Congrats on saving the little dog. Sorry about the car.
Hi Carissa! This is Jen, Nevin’s wife.I love your channel and watching you create your drawings! I just purchased one of them, the Portugal piece. I LOVE it! We are planning to move to Portugal when I would retire and we are planning a vacation / reconnaissance trip in May. We are looking especially at Central Portugal. I know you live in or around Castelo Branco, but we are torn between the East and West side. Can you tell me anything about Central, areas, places of interest, etc? I hank’s!would really appreciate any input you can offer. Thank you so much! ♥️🤗😊
You shouldn’t apologise for sharing your stresses! It’s good to hear your trials and tribulations, it makes your videos interesting!
Amazing!! Sorry to hear bout the car….
Hazel ☘️ …
Well done you for rescuing the dog !
I had two wells which I covered to prevent accidents like that after discovering several animals had died in them , small animals like hedgehogs for example !
So yes covering the well is an excellent idea indeed
All coming on so good you are getting such expert DIY’ers
🙏☘️😘
Why don’t you put up safety on your property???
They’re taking the motor out to change the timing belt? It must be a chain drive and they’re replacing the motor. Frustrating. I’m so sorry you’re experiencing this challenge.
I have had to replace the timing belt, twice on my 2002 Kia Sportage. Same motor. First time cost just under $600.USD(2007). Second time cost $400.USD (2013). The motor has almost 300,000 miles (482803.2km) on it.
