This week we harvest the grapes with our lovely neighbours and the local farmers. Due to the drought and heatwaves, we weren’t expecting a great harvest, but it actually turned out pretty good and we got a lot of grapes! We aren’t making our own wine this year, but we gave the grapes to our neighbour and filmed the start of winemaking on their farm. Pressing the grapes to get the juices out and starting the fermentation process.
We also popped into Castelo Novo to check out their annual harvest festival. These festivals weren’t running for the last few years due to the Corona Virus lockdowns, so it was great to see it back up and running.
We are Ken & Gina. 2.5 years ago, we got fed up with paying a mortgage and having to work boring office jobs just to keep our heads above water! We decided to take a big chance, sell everything, and buy a motorhome, which we used to drive our remaining belongings and our pets to Portugal. We bought a beautiful farm in Central Portugal where we live with our 3 dogs, 2 cats and a bunch of other farm animals. Every week we release new episodes of our Portugal Farm Life where you can get an inside look at how we live, on and around the farm, and adapt to the challenges of our new lives.

Dear Ken, I am really sorry to see that one of your excellent Property Tour videos is missing that was published 7 months ago and I just started to watch it yesterday but could not find it today. (57 acres, Central Portugal, EUR 395.000). Could you please upload it again?
Just make one realize that when you have abundance you have to be great full. Enjoy

Great video Ken – Joaquin is a wonderful neighbour and a hard worker. So too is your Gina. Stars both of them
Maybe next year we’ll ALL 😊 be ‘invited’ to the family lunch.
Very nice episode. Please pass on our appreciation from your fans for letting you film them all!! Love it.
Without doubt the first 5 mins your best filming to date; really showed the grape harvest well done.
Then from the 10 am wine break the rest of the day became hilarious and the filming !!! standard was in line with the alcohol consumption! LOL
Muito lindo 🙂
Soooo nice community! Helping each other. I reminded me of the time when i was in Australia picking 🍇 grapes. I would love to participate in that again. This coming weeks I'm driving down to Spain and later in to Portugal and your area. The aim is to get to know people. People makes the places. In my van looking for a property eventually in your area. I'm going to visit some Youtubers and hopefully i have a chance to meet you two as well… sharing a coffee or a beer. I want to learn about off grid, Portugal living and in the future be able to escape the long dark winters in Sweden.
Regards Rickard from Sweden 🇸🇪
Ken… You are the OG of Portugal…love the positive vibe I get every Sunday from your videos. Blessings and much love to You, Gina and the animal family.
Are those grapes good to eat?
Wow that was an awesome collection of grapes 🍇
Love the night time castle bit you could see all the twinkling on the stones
Thank you for sharing 😁
So cool, dude … great video ! Best yet.
Hic hic nice one Ken and gena could almost smell the chicken.
Great to see the community pitching in – a lesson for all city dwellers! Any chance of getting some updates and insight into the wine making process at its various stages?
That was a fabulous day!!!! I guess you both were too tired to wait for the music after a day like that. I would have loved to see some mov es on the floor by you guys 🕺💃😃🍇🏰🍷🍺 😉
A lovely video with neighbours and friends 🐶🐶🐶
GREAT VIDEO!!
Grape climber’s love a good strong trellis. NASA Retired engineer designed Henry’s Ladder. Add two wires ~ to Human Height. A gift. Easier for his petite wife so she could reach. He gave the tech away for all Growers. Scott Henry III.
Great video. Thanks Ken.
I love Texas but ADIDOP. (All day I dream of Portugal) 😄
I hungry! I'll eat the grapes, you drink the wine.
Good to see Costa!
Joaquim doing his thing!
Let's hope the upcoming rain fills up the dams, springs, wells and rivers! I have two containers to catch rain water and they've filled up a bit with these last few days of rain in northwestern Portugal.
Good day you guys had! Hot in the day and chilly over night. If you are selling any of your wine let me know 🙂
😊❤️
With the pace of life on your farm, for ever year, you gain 5 years to your life. Lovely video, Ken and Gina.
One of the craziest things this year is that by the end of August pretty much everyone had the grape harvest done, something that usually was only started early to mid September. Another crazy thing is that we're almost half way through September and in many places the olive trees only have a handful of olives that didn't even start growing properly. How are yours, Ken?
Hello guys.Another intresting video.Bravo Ken.Grapes harvest is a celebration in traditional societies. What a pitty that you didnt stay for the music concert to hear some Portugese Music…i hope another time.nice continue i wish.ciao…
Joaquim rocks. I would like to donate 2 full add-watchings so you can bring that man a beer from me. Cheers!
I wouldn't by equipment just the fact you can enjoy time and participate with your neighbors is awesome.
Peixinhos da horta = tempura (introduced in Japan by the Portuguese)
You have both integrated into Portuguese life, first you find the beer stalls followed by the food court.
Another great video Ken. Helping each other on the farm. The give and take relationship is precious. The drought and heatwaves might have dampened the harvest but it strengthened your resolve. Hopefully, next year will be better. The video has a beautiful musical score. Who is it ? Well done, Mate! Lots of love to you both😍😍😍 Jim, Harriet and Yuki. Richmond. Va.
It's so beautiful seeing you and wonderful neighbours you have all working together ❤
Great Vlog Ken thanks for sharing.
