We talked a lot about what we called ”legacy brand countries” that were once great and had maintained that reputation perhaps long after they deserved it. They are no longer free; they no longer have economic policies, but people think they are. Europe has a lot of these kinds of countries, and in this video, Andrew shares a couple he believes are not ”legacy brands” and can be great places for life.

  1. where would you recommend for the middle class? i need to get my ex on board because of our kids. I am really concerned about the WEF and Klaus Schwab “you will own nothing and be happy.”. I was thinking Costa Rica or Hungary? Companies like Blackrock are pricing us out of buying homes, so im glad i dont have a 2nd mortgage (my ex pays me rent since my credit is better). i am not a fan of woke stuff since there a trend to sexualize children here in the US. my anxiety and depression is high (want to protect my kids), but im an accountant and i love my work.

  2. I follow your channel for a few years now and in the beginning I was surprised that you were talking so much about Serbia and sometimes about neighbouring countries but never mentioned anything about Bulgaria. Because Bulgaria offers a somewhat "Switzerland" experience but at a fraction of the cost. It's kind of a tax haven but surprisingly with an EU membership. It's very very open to foreigners. More than a dozen people speak good English. If you are a foreigner who has some money to spend I believe that Bulgaria is a great place to be! Serbia as well no question about it, but if someone is looking for that EU passport, definitely Bulgaria has the edge. On top of it there is a beautiful see cost, moreover from the capital of Sofia it's even closer to go to a Greek coast! The drawbacks are for poor locals, the wages are still bad (not that bad in Sofia and improving but still low for Europe). The Bulgarian passport does not offer a visa free travel to the U.S. and it's rather difficult to gain access to the U.S. And as much as I love it that Bulgaria stays under the radar and hasn't become a typical "legacy brand" that carries a drawback that there is a great underestimation and unrecognition from other western nations, which pisses me off!

  3. France is cheaper than people think. Also best healthcare in the world. Very organized and clean country too for the most part.

Yeah the taxes suck but whatever. There are ways around it

  4. I'd love to leave with my life savings and leave Canada to the Liberal bootlickers who can live in their utopia of crippling taxes and unaffordable socialism. Problem is I'm old school and don't want to learn another language.

  5. Portugal is a super nice country that I always love to visit, mainly for all of the awesome handcrafted goods you can get in places like Obidos. Still though, Portugal has one of the highest VATs in Europe at 23% so if everything else was not cheap, that would be a bigger drag on an otherwise great place.

  6. Italy is a super attractive tax haven, which is not very well known and apparently also not known by Andrew. You can get a 90% exemption on income tax in Italy if you move there for 5 years or so. That means that your income tax has a top bracket of 5%. For much higher income earners you can pay a 100.000 euro lump sum.

  7. I wouldn’t recommend Spain having lived here for over 12 years. Would I return to my homeland Ireland ? Yes& no but also much red tape but standard of living is higher. Spain has sun besides been known as little África illegal immigrants becoming an issue crime up. Socialist run and now more bureaucratic than ever. Low wages in Spain high rent. Ireland high wages higher rent for example. EU is toast

  8. Southern Europe can not compete with Northern Europe. That won t change. These countries will remain poorer compared to their northern neighbors. The real problem with most of these European countries is that they are left wing. Capitalism is a dirty word. So all of Europe is moving down compared to the Far East.

  9. I'd like to offer a cautionary note about viewing Portugal as "Off-brand Spain" or "Spain Lite" or "Lesser Spain", and especially voicing this in Portugal. It will not win you friends.

Portugal has a unique history, language, culture, and customs. And while it shares similarities with its neighbour, as most neighbouring countries share, it is insulting to erase all that makes Portugal unique and its people proud by saying something like "Meh…Portugal…Spain…same thing".

You won't be booed and hissed at on the streets of Lisbon if you go around trying to speak in broken Spanish or use the Spanish terms for things. People will likely still understand you and be polite, but they will think you are incredibly ignorant and probably want little to do with you.

Enjoy Portugal for what it is. It has enough history, good food, good wine, good weather, good people, good culture, and good families without needing to add Spain in the equation.

  10. I know you are not talking about necessarily relocating to these places but I gather the larger cities in Portugal are becoming rather lawless.
