The last beach on the Arrábida coast (that is, if you’re coming from the west; if you’re coming from the city of Setúbal, it’s the first beach) is mostly frequented by the people of Setúbal (especially the younger population, which doesn’t mind walking here from the center of town, for about a half hour).
It faces the Troia peninsula and has a good view of the Arrábida Natural Park. There are always small boats on the calm waters, and wicker parasols on the golden sand for rent in the summer. In the bathing season, there is also lifeguard supervision.
On the eastern side is a ruined 17th-century fort, the Forte de Albarquel, built to defend the mouth of the Sado river and the port of Setúbal. Behind it is a park (the Parque Urbano de Albarquel), where people often also sunbathe.
