The Praia de Santo Amaro de Oeiras is the main beach of Oeiras and is a beautiful sandy bay that opens out on the mouth of the Tejo Estuary.
Oeiras beach is one of the first decent beaches close to Lisbon, which means it can get very busy in the summer, especially at the weekends. The Praia de Santo Amaro tends to attract a younger age of visitors, with overly excited Portuguese teenagers and twentysomethings, but there is always an equal number of families and older couples.
The Praia de Santo Amaro de Oeiras is a good beach if you are on holiday near Oeiras or want a simple trip from Lisbon. The beach is served by regular train service, and the journey is only 24 minutes from central Lisbon.
More scenic and larger beaches are further to the west of the Lisbon coastline, but Oeiras beach is ideal if you just want to relax and bask in the glorious Portuguese weather.
The Passeio Marítimo de Oeiras extends around the beach, a purpose-built cycle path and footpath that follows the scenic coastline.
