เมื่อเราย้ายชีวิตบนเรือมาใช้ชีวิตบนบกที่ประเทศโปรตุเกส สิ่งแรกที่เราทำคือ ซื้อรถบ้าน เพื่อขับท่องเที่ยวเดินทางในโปรตุเกสและไปยังประเทศต่างๆ ในทวีปยุโรป เมื่อเวลาผ่านไป เราเริ่มจะรู้สึกคุ้นเคยกับชีวิตบนบกมากขึ้น แต่ก็ยังอดไม่ได้ที่จะคิดถึงชีวิตบนเรือใบ เพราะชีวิตที่ไม่มีเรือใบก็ค่อนข้างจะราบเรียน เราไม่มีเครื่องยนต์เรือที่ต้องซ่อมบำรุง เราเลยรู้สีกว่าในแต่ละวันเราค่อนข้างมีเวลาว่างเหลือเยอะ เราจึงต้องหาโปรเจ็คใหม่ๆ ในชีวิตของเราเพื่อให้เรามือไม่ว่าง ดังนั้น เราเลยเริ่มมองหาบ้านร้างเพื่อซื้อมารีโนเวท เริ่มจากการหาบ้านร้างที่ขายตามอินเตอร์เน็ต แต่เราก็ยังไม่เจอบ้านร้างที่ถูกใจที่อยู่ในวงเงินที่เราจำกัดไว้ เราก็เดินหน้าค้นหาข้อมูลไปเรื่อยๆ จนในที่สุด เราเจอบ้านร้างหลังนึงที่อยู่ในวงเงินที่จำกัดของเรา อยู่ที่เมืองวิซิว ซึ่งตั้งอยู่ทางภาคกลางของประเทศโปรตุเกส เราจึงเดินทางไปดู แต่เมื่อพอไปถึงสถานที่จริงบ้านร้างตามที่โฆษณาไว้นั้น กลับกลายเป็นซากสถาปัตยกรรมที่พังทลายลงมาแล้ว แต่เราก็ลองเดินสำรวจบริเวณรอบๆ แล้วได้พูดคุยกับผู้ที่อาศัยอยู่ในบริเวณนั้น จนในที่สุด เขาก็ได้แนะนำว่ามีบ้านร้างหลังนึงที่เจ้าของอาจจะขายให้เราในราคาที่อยู่ในงบประมาณที่เราตั้งไว้ ซึ่งก็คือบ้านหลังนี้ เรายังไม่ได้วางแผนว่าเมื่อซ่อมแซมบ้านหลังนี้แล้วเราจะย้ายเข้าไปอยู่ ขาย หรือเป็นบ้านตากอากาศ เพราะก็ยังต้องใช้เวลานานกว่าจะถึงวันนั้น และก็เป็นโปรเจ็คที่เราแพลนว่าจะค่อยๆ ทำ ค่อยๆ ซ่อมแซมในส่วนที่เราสามารถทำได้เอง

When we moved from “boat life” to “land life” in Portugal, the first thing we did was buying the RV to travel around Portugal and other European countries. As time has passed, we started to feel comfortable here but after life without sail boat it seems that every day life is so free. We don’t have the engine to fix or no need maintaining boat parts, so our life was empty. We need some project to occupy our life to be busy. So we were looking to buy the ruin property to renovate. First, we looked in the internet, we couldn’t find many options within our budget…and we keep looking. Then, we found one ruin house in Viseu, central of Portugal, that we went to check it out, but it turns out to be demolished property. However, in the same day, the local citizen came out to talk to us and suggested us the ruin house in that small village that the owner might sell it to us with the little budget we have in our pockets.
We don’t know if we will move in, to sell or just holiday house, it’s still long way to go. Since we are not rushing this project, we will try to fix what we can by ourselves, slowly.

Quando mudámos da “vida no barco” para a “vida em terra”, a primeira coisa que fizemos foi comprar uma autocaravana para viajar por Portugal e pela Europa. Com o passar do tempo, começámos a sentir-nos mais confortáveis por aqui mas a vida sem veleiro parece muito descontraída e com muito tempo livre. Não temos motor para arranjar ou outra manutenção para fazer no barco, a nossa vida é tão vazia. Precisávamos um projecto para nos ocuparmos. Por isso fomos à procura de uma ruína para renovar. Primeiro, procurámos pela internet, e não encontrámos nada dentro do nosso orçamento… e continuámos a procurar. Entretanto, encontrámos uma casa na zona de Viseu, no Centro de Portugal, que fomos ver mas, acabámos por ver que estava mesmo em ruínas, nada se aproveitava. No entanto, no mesmo dia e graças a uma senhora que vivia na mesma aldeia, encontrámos uma que o dono queria vender dentro do valor que seria aceitável para nós. Não sabemos se alguma vez ali iremos viver, se a venderemos ou se será uma casa de férias. Ainda falta muito. Visto que não temos grande pressa, vamos tentar fazer grande parte do trabalho nós mesmo, devagarinho.
