I hope any Portugese people watching this video understand that I am just being very silly, let me know where from the nation you are watching from!
better and more accurate than west, north-west, mid-west, south-west, south-east, north-east and mid-atlantic… also, we usually use the sub-regions, (minho, tras-os-montes e alto douro, douro litoral, beira litoral, beira alta, beira baixa, ribatejo, alto alentejo, baixo alentejo, and algarve).
americans take one year to learn 50 states + 51 capitals. we learn 20 districts or autonomous regions and 2 capitals of autonomous regions, the capital of the country and of the districts we already know since they are the same as the districts. we also learn the parishes of our municipalities and the municipalities of our districts, which are easy to learn since the municipalities are the same as the capital of municipalities and the parishes are the same as the village(s), town or city in them, unless the city is very large, in which case the parishes are different to the city, but there is never more than one city in the same municipality, so its the same as learning about villages…
it’s not about being fun, it’s about being effective. if americans used the same method of naming places they. be better at domestic geography than what they are now.
Well… There's a place called "Judas' Ass" in the Azores
I'm Portuguese, and I'm pretty sure that the so-called district of I think you said "Leiria" does not even exist.
New York is not named after New York City my friend
Liria doesn't exist, it's a myth
In Portugal we have a saying to thank foreigners: "Vai pó caralho", and I think it's beautiful.
You just need to dig a little bit deeper, to local names. Portugal has a TON of absolutely hilarious ones. Here's a few:
ORELHUDO (Big-eared)
CABEÇUDO (Big-headed)
PAITORTO (bent dad)
PORCA (sow-female pig)
QUINTA DE COMICHÃO (itchy estate)
VALE DA RATA (female rat valley – it has a funny double meaning in European Portuguese)
VILA NOVA DO COITO (New coitus village)
CABEÇA GORDA (Fat head)
DEIXA O RESTO (leave the rest)
PAU GORDO (fat d*ck)
POUCA FARINHA (too little [wheat] flower)
VALE DE AZIA (heartburn valley)
VENDA DAS RAPARIGAS (brat's sale; this one is funnier in Brazilian Portuguese. Look it up)
CASAL DO GRÊLO (Clitoris couple)
CHIQUEIRO (pigsty)
ENDIABRADA (devilish)
MALAVADO (badly washed)
PINTALHOS (d*ck pieces)
PUNHETE (w*nk)
TRASEIROS (buttocks)
VINHA DA DESGRAÇA (disgrace vineyard)
Well there are some small villages with really exciting names…😂
I love the Portuguese language version of these names… even if they are boring, the beauty of my mother land makes up for it… 🇵🇹
Boring
Portugal, n., Norwegian, meaning someone who is crazy for port wine…
You went full chinese trying to pronounce portuguese names. Lesus Clisto!
The name of the regions are boring because we spent all of our creativity mashing up celtic, roman, germanic and arab names for the same place, village or town
Check out the names of the days of he week 🙂
All this talk about "Portugal should be part of Spain" you should be reminded that Portugal existed wayyyy before Spain did including the language. "Spain should be part of Portugal" should be the actual quote
Most offensive video I've seen in awhile. Not expect from this channel
Only a Englishman would describe colonial history as good for the Western Hemisphere
Bold way to start a video mate 😂

It's in the west of the Iberian Peninsula, still
Israel is the same way (North, Center, South, Haifa, Tel Aviv, Jerusalem), made weirder by the fact that each of these areas has multiple historical names that are largely still in colloquial use.
Having a region named after a town is a little boring? Welcome to Thailand, where every single province is named after the main town it houses.
I'd make fun of Portugal for having lame and uninspired names but I live in Connecticut so… yeah…
The country isn't called Portugoh. Please pronounce the L
Great video love from Matosinhos, Porto❤
No offense was taken haha
You want a Portuguese name challenge? Try to figure out what my last name means. It is the same as a town in Portugal but that name has no meaning.
