I love your videos . Can't wait for the what happend within 12 months episode 🙂
As a retired accountant, I am glad to see realistic planning.
It is pretty much criminal to die debt to a land when the user is the one having the debt. This way goverment can simply rob people for free.
Good info Sir…
Good tips Moreno.
Thank you. This was very useful and thorough.
“In some areas hunters will be able to come and hunt on your land”
News flash. That’s not “your land”
Thanks so much!
amazing video bro thanks alot
This is a must watch video for anyone even thinking about buying land in ANY country. Very powerful and to the point. Well done!! 😁
this is a true gem! amazing inspiration and the best so far extensive to-do list, new points spotted ! thank you so so much
What is the minimum size of land you would recommend buying for a family homestead?
Moreno, your project is amazing! Very similar to ours in Portugal 😍
What do you think about the idea of planting a couple of Paulownia Hybrids as support trees to generate some coverage of the floor to keep the humidity in? They grow super fast and provide great shadow. The only thing that might be a bit problematic is that they are not originally from Portugal. Would love to have your opinion on this ☺️
Keep it up! Great work! 🤙🏼
Hearing "lawyer" so many times as a citizen of very predatory America sure is hard on the gut, but sounds like they don't have the same negative connotation there?…simply another helpful resource in getting info on a property? Would it be a good idea to find a real estate lawyer who fits our plans before even starting to search for property, esp with all the added considerations of building rural/Passiv/homesteading/STR?
I'm use to doing all my own legwork, but finding it challenging in Portugal. LOVE everything I've learned about the country so far!
As always a great informative video!
Fair warning to people planning to become CBD farmers in the Portugal/Spain area, you will be a target for organised crime. Your farm is the perfect place to hide illegal production. Your wives and children will be used against you for your cooperation.
The areas effected by this risk have low market value on illegal recreational marijuana and hash. You will be able to buy 10 kilos for for 5k, 1 kilo 1k, 100 grams for 200,-.
Lower prices mean you are even closer to the manufacturers. Faro, Huelva and Cadiz are the new import areas for illegal hash from Morocco. Organised crime shifts from coast to coast, they stretch the budget for law enforcement this way. The entire regions have communities thriving on illegal business, the way into this market is open to anyone resulting in violence and corruption. The best place within a 300km radius from these hubs of illegal trade is a community that does not have illegal substances available. Problem with these communities is that they won't allow CBD production. So you need to be in a provincial border area outside the local governments jurisdiction to be under provincial law. I recommend to simply move to a much safer country for your CBD operation.
Run out off toilet paper 🤣you really don't know what off grid really means and there are other options for toilet paper 😌 like leaf's and rain water but if you have enough cleen water you can use that off course .you are living'' the luxury off-grid life "😌🤓
We live in Australia and have water tanks. This provides all our water needs unless we have a particularly dry Summer. (Then water is purchased) we have never had to do this yet. The tanks catch all the rain water from our home and barn.
Thanks for making a video about what is needed to live here and make a life legally, i think there is lots more that could be said but with the laws and regulations out here it could turn into a 4 hour video😉… we have just been talking about doing a video along the lines of this subject.
Can i ask how you got permission for your van and yurt, assuming you are living in them?
Great list. What about neighbors and community life? After a few months/years it could get quite lonely.
Being a property developer in a previous life , I thought this was obvious, but then I realised common sense doesn't exist anymore, so well my boer farmer , on important thing when buying land which most don't mention is … the local people… they can make or break you , especially in parts of the UK, the people can be very hostile to outsiders, there are accounts of foreigners homes being burnt down in parts of Wales for example, I can't speak for Portugal so it would be a good idea to meet the local neighbours first 👍👍👍
An important video.
No 1 question for me: is there WATER on the land?
No point going ahead with anything else if there is no water.
These villages you mention that were built in the "wrong place" were in the "correct place" centuries ago when there weren't as many climate change issues or fires like now.
It's only nowadays that they seem to be in the wrong place.
Shower now and then😂 hell no, shower every day, ladies especially need to,those that do not have a daily wash, will grow things in strange places🤣🤣🤣
Thanks you Moreno, this is exactly we need to advice for new buyers
Just remember that people have been trying there for thousands of years.. They have a tradition of trying to get out of there because the land is so poor… With current climate tendencies I can only imagine it getting worse… There is a reason why land and properties are so cheap in Portugal and Spain…
I’m glad your daughter is ok, and I laughed at the toilet paper joke. Loving all the videos, speaking and silent!
Such a valuable video. About two months ago I started watching many channels of people homesteading in Northern Portugal and Spain. Many are headed for some heartbreak. Wells going dry, lack of income, thousands spent on re-drilling bore holes, inability to develop portions of their land because of regulations. The list goes on and on. I feel like I should share your video on FB so that it reaches more people.
I wish I would have watched this video 15 year's ago when I bought land because I made a lot of these mistakes back then 😔 . So listen to this advice people 😉
Can you recommend a website for finding land for sale in PT? Dank U Well
Thanks for the great tips
Great video – well done! Looking forward to seeing the farm grow and evolve in the coming years.
This is so important. I've been tempted but cheap pieces of land, but like you said, there's a reason it's so cheap
This is super helpful Moreno! Lots of things I've learned and to ponder on.

Wow Mario you have Just send me back to school thank you so much for the info, most people will not tell you what you have just said
Thanks excellent advice looking forward to see more videos of how you and your family and land grows.
Thank you for a very informative video – I hope it will help prospective homesteaders avoid the pitfalls of purchasing their dream property.
What impresses me most about your personal history is how much experience you and your wife had before you actually bought land and began to develop your farm. I watch a lot of YouTube videos about farming and it is very clear that it’s a physically, emotionally and mentally demanding career that isn’t for everyone. Anyone imagining an idyllic life in nature, full of sunshine and fresh air is missing the complete picture – farming is full of long hours, hard work and setbacks as well as beautiful moments of harmony with the earth, water and sky. People should spend some time visiting small farms, talking to the farmers who own them and hopefully getting some practical experience before deciding to make a drastic change in their lifestyle.
I’m very happy that your daughter is doing well after her accident – sending prayers and healing energy for her rapid and complete recovery🙏🏻.
Wow! Very good info!
Awesome advice
Thank you.
Thank you so much. Really mean it 🙏
Such good info!!! Thank you Moreno😃👍
20% of the Portuguese people are living abroad, that should tell you enough about the challenges of earning a living in Portugal.
Excellent video packed with no-nonsense information. Two other things to consider: how much top soil is there in case of rocky underground; and what are the rules for having immovable and movable assets, ie. can you rebuild an existing ruine or have a caravan, trailer, chalet etc. on site. With the amount of land you have, you could consider planting hemp and making your own toilet paper. Veel succes.
about the last part, i wonder what kind of business opportunity you are planning to do on this land ?
The world needs to think like this
Excelente conteúdo, tiro sempre valor dos teus vídeos, obrigado.
0.5 hectares here, in western Patagonia, water everywhere, lush temperate forests like washington or oregon, flat terrain, volcanic soil, tends to flood on winter season, there are streams everywhere, but the shocking thin, when I bought it in 2019 it was at 3600 USD, I had to get, havent moved yet, pandemic and social upheaval down here. but it is primal forest, now with the roads, electricity being built and soon a large bridge connecting the island to the continent, im thinking maybe its time to pack and go
