Alcoutim is a small village situated on the shore of the great river of the South, the Guadiana. It marks the transition between the Algarve and the Alentejo and between Portugal and Spain, on the other side of river.
The human presence in Alcoutim dates back to the Palaeolithic period, and there are vestiges of the continuity of human communities in the following periods, such as the Bronze and Iron Age, Romans, Visigoths, Moors and Reconquest.
A passenger ferry to Sanlúcar de Guadiana, Spain is available but does not take motorized vehicles. By road the distance is 70 km.
From here it is possible to go on a boat trip and visit Mértola.

Bella Portugal, cómo te echo de menos!
Hoy he visitado este bonito pueblo de Portugal y me ha encantado. Volveré con más tiempo y para hacer un trabajo fotográfico. El video está bien, pero yo pienso (es mi opinión) habría cruzado al lado español para filmar y grabar a Alcoutim en una vista general, al menos al principio y al final del video, sobre todo cuando aparece el nombre del pueblo, ya que las imágenes corresponden a Sänlúcar de Guadiana, que está enfrente. Por cierto, muy bonito también. Que es el que tiene el castillo blanco encima de la montaña, mientras que el de Alcoutim es de color oscuro y está casi integrado en el pueblo. Por lo demás bien. Y los dos pueblos merecen visitarse.
