In this video we are in the Algarve. After Vila Nova de Milfontes we drove 80 kilometers south towards Bordeira’s beach. Bordeira’s beach is a beautiful golden beach, and a hotspot for surfers. After our successful surf session in Peniche, we thought we had the skills and knowledge to catch some waves here ourselves. However, this was quite disappointing. The waves here were quite big, and the current was very strong. After a few brave attempts, we stopped and watched the locals from the beach. Bordeira’s beach is close to Lagos our place to sleep for the next 2 nights. The absolute must-see in Lagos is Ponta da Piedade. The golden rock formations and high cliffs are truly beautiful. It is very touristy, and boat tours are offered everywhere. Ponta da Piedade is easy to reach by car, and you don’t have to pay an entrance fee. We skipped the beaches in the area because of the mass tourism. In the afternoon we drove to Sagres. Sagres is a very nice place to visit. Sagres is also known as the end of the world. Not surprising with the gigantic high cliffs and the endless view of the sea. During the day we enjoyed the beaches of Sagres. Many people also come here to surf. And towards the end of the afternoon we drove to the lighthouse Cabo de São Vicente to watch the sunset from there. An absolute must in my opinion! Good to know: it can be chilly when the sun goes down and it’s almost always windy here. The next day we planned to visit the Benagil caves. Unfortunately it turned out to be so hugely touristy and busy that we decided to drive on. We parked our car a bit further and started hiking towards the Seven Hanging Valleys trail. Magnificent! The rock formations, the golden coast, the caves and the walk itself is fantastic. After several hours of hiking we treated ourselves to a break at Marinha Beach. The last days of the road trip we stayed in Faro. Not in the center of Faro itself, but slightly further out in the town of Estoi. In a lovely guesthouse where we could relax as much as possible. From here we made another day trip to Tavira. The center of Tavira is very small and not necessarily worth seeing. The white beach (Praia da Ilha de Tavira), on the other hand, is definitely worth a visit. On our last day we returned our rental car in Faro before flying back home. We really enjoyed Portugal, and will definitely come back here!
