Working with its signature material base, FGR Architects creates Courtyard House – a concrete dream house with a functional and airy interior. Shielded from the street, the minimalistic home enables natural ventilation and a sunlit landscape.
A low-profile building, Courtyard House represents a structural shift from the local built environment; an intriguing blur in the pattern of gable-roof constructions. Set back in its site, the dream house embraces its contextual standing, opening its grounds to the natural northern sunlight.
Upon approach, the architecture of the dream house outlines a sequence of 90 degree turns that leads residents from the footpath to the front gate, then to the main entry of the home. The journey serves to introduce the idea of connectivity, echoed within the interior design.
The layout of Courtyard House intentionally fosters passive solar heating and natural ventilation. A sightline directly connects the entrance of the dream house to the backyard, whilst large sliding doors join the living-kitchen-dining area to the outdoor space.
Though unique and compelling, Courtyard House is ultimately understated. Demonstrating skill in concrete and light play, FGR Architects creates a practical and elegant dream house that enables an immersive natural connection.

Wow. I’ve always dreamed of having an inner courtyard which could be seen from most areas of the house through floor to ceiling windows. This takes that to whole other level.

The home is exceptionally beautiful. However, I'd like to see the floorplan because the views presented in the video are confusing. Where is it located? Australia or New Zealand? What did it cost to build?
I like how the concrete makes the house cold and hard on the outside, but then the oak makes it warm and soft on the inside. Sort of like a cosy safe-space. 🙃
The house reminds me of a prison cell. All the sight lines are views of concrete walls.

Love the house… and I can see everyone praising the editing. The music is great… but the video is so choppy that you don't get to soak in the experience of the space. I know I'll probably get attacked for sharing my opinion, but that is just my opinion. Love the house.
The contrast between this incredible home and the houses around is amazing. They look awful… actually they are. This is a demonstration that design is something rare to create and understand.

This renovation seems to be quite innovative to me. So often renovations rise above neighboring homes but this one sits lower then neighboring houses and utilizes natural light through skylights and courtyards which surround the home and brighten the home. It's lovely and serene. The lines throughout the home are beautiful and the materials used are very nice. This is really quite lovely.
I think the home is beautiful, but the editing was so quick I could barely “see” it. I hit pause repeatedly to appreciate what I was being shown… then said forget it. I gave up.

This house needs a decorator, it's got great architectural conception but it's cold. It's made by architects, and it needs a layer of decoration.

It has the playfulness of a labyrinth with a surprise around every corner, but not claustrophobic. The home breathes, and somehow manages to have views even in the heart of the space. Love it! ☺️
