One of the most common interior design questions that I hear from people is “How do I know which sofa to buy?” The options are almost endless, which is both exciting and terrifying. “What if I choose the wrong one?” Choosing the right sofa is huge because it’s the centerpiece of most living rooms, setting the tone and design direction for the entire space. We also have to consider the investment required. If I buy a candle that I don’t like, it’s $20 and I can regift it. If I buy a sofa that I don’t like it’s a different story and they don’t sell gift bags large enough to regift it. 😅
I understand the struggle so I’m going to share a few of my favorite sofas. Some of these I have in my own home and some of these I’ve used in client projects all over the US. Pottery Barn and West Elm offer affordable options that are a healthy mix of well-designed, customizable and affordable. Hi! I've been watching your videos and been feeling like there is too much fluff and it's hard to get through a 20 minute plus video and not get much real advice BUT not this one! This one was packed with EXCELLENT tips the entire video, thank you!
Good one! We’re getting ready to purchase new living room furniture. It’s soooooooooo hard!
Would you ever go for a designer piece like toga sofa?
Loved this video and learned about rub count!
I wish you show us what's your arms exercise routine cause they are looking in gorgiouse shape
I love your channel. I’m in the market for a new sofa but I’m allergic to down. Do you have advice on sofas that do not have down in them?
I love your dress!
Hi Valentina, Can you give some recommendations on sofas for small homes? I live in an old florida home where living rooms are quite small. Thank you always for the great insight
I bought an ottoman instead of a coffee table for my living room. Put a tray on it etc. is that ok?
Are you kidding me with that green dress and the staged room with green accents? Stunning. Next level when you become a part of the design 🔥
Hi Valentina!, how to clean a boucle bench sofa, I bought it from cb2, it's now sitting in my bedroom closet because I don't know how to take the dirt out, an advice is much appreciated 🙂
I like your videos I am just turned off by you laughing a lot. Other interior bloggers don’t do it.
Where is the rug from ?
Thank you, I was just asked to help decorate my neighbors home. I'll have to check yhe links. Thank-you Valentina!
Thank you for this video. I really needed this. I recently bought a bilevel home and I don’t know what sofa configuration/style would look best. Any recommendations?
For us non-Americans out there: 36 inches is 91.4 cm.
Thanks, Enjoyed the sofa suggestions.😃
Hi Valentina, you mentioned in your video "rub count" but you didn't define what that was ? Or optimal rub count? Please respond. Thank you.
What about cb2
I specifically looked for a couch that has removable and washable cushion covers with waterproof cushion wraps underneath and it has already saved me after my cat threw up on it. Washed up and looks good as new with no lingering smell.
LOVE Your Videos!! Excellent! 👍🏻👏🏻🙋🏻♀️❤️
What is your recommendation for a couch with micro- fiber? It seems to hold up with a dog and kids.
Oops! My apologies for not seeing the typo spell check of your name Valentina!
Hi Valerie! You’re a wealth of information! We have a new sofa and it has rolled arms. I chose complimentary side accessory pillows for it which now I’m not loving. I removed them and quite frankly, I like the sofa without the pillows! Every decorated room I see on line has accessory pillows, but I think with the side rolled arms and comfy back sofa cushions, there is no need for the extras. Have you had clients who also decided to go without?
Great video, V! I’ve got the Pacific bench sofa from Crate&Barrel, with square arms, and I have to say I love it. (As does my dog.)
Which leads me to some hard-won advice I’d like to share with the rest of the commentariat: colourmatch your couch to your pet. I’m serious. I have a soft sandy-beige couch… and a puppy with brown fur. I thought I could squeak by with a beige couch.
The risk I took was calculated but I am baaaaad at math. =_=‘
I’m thinking that many folks buy large sofas because they have large families… many children, possibly large children. My son has 4 boys… they bought a semi large sectional so the family could all lounge together while watching movies, which they do frequently. The boys are still growing… the 17 yr old is now 6’1”, the 13 yr old is 6’2”, and then there’s a 10 & 8 yr olds. So picture their family with 2 tall parents and 4 sons relaxing with a movie or watching funny YouTube videos together in the evening.
What a helpful video! That cat coming out of the couch made me laugh!
Sofa fabric issue- all of the above ! 🙁
We have a sectional 'Gather' sofa at 2:28 in the same color, from C&B correct? Where is that rug from?
I love this.. perfect timing. Looking to purchase a new sofa.
Valentina, what would you advise for a couple who have two very different styles? I’m minimal and clean lines, my husband is country cottage style. Can you do a video on marrying two styles for different personalities, so they both love their space. Challenge set 🥰 I love your home
Have you found a new place for your brown rustic vase/piece of art that was on top of your fireplace? I LOVE that thing. Your dough bowl is beautiful as well, I was looking at them on Amazon after your last video.
You look great in that green dress. Thanks for the sofa advice.
When we moved from Pennsylvania to Arizona upon retirement, I too a chance and ordered my first fabric sofa. I’ve always bought leather, but decided I wanted a change to go along with a complete change in house style.
Pretty sure I’ll get the perfect sofa when I’m like 90 finally.
We finally invested in West Elm’s Dekalb leather sofa and love it. We are rough on it with having younger kids, a dog, and lots of guest and it looks great!
My requirement for my new sectional sofa is reversible cushions! I am in the market for a new one this Summer.
fabulous ideas, anyways that is a great area, and the background to shoot this video is beautiful. love your living room is fabulous.
What is rub count
Oh so good, thank you! I’m not a designer but I’m very visual and can eyeball issues in a room pretty quickly. Can’t change them bc they’re not my room but when friends/family let me get my hands on anything, I’m in! 😀💃
I recently purchased RH leather sofa but color is too dark so I will order those Amazon pillows to lighten them up. Thx u V for all ur fantastic tips!
Worse mistake I ever made was getting rid of a Chesterfield for a sectional. The sectional was more expensive and so so so cheaply made and uncomfortable. That Chesterfield was comfortable and durable.
Wary of Pottery Barn furniture. Looking at Roger and Chris's sofas, actually made in USA, with different options and selections.
I am looking at buying new accent chairs for my living so was curious about the sofa recommendations. My dad use to be the president of the American Furniture Association. So, I grew up with nice furniture because we got it at wholesale prices. McKinley does custom furniture and has a the best quality leather I have felt in person. My parents couch looks like the day it was delivered…even after dogs and kids. I feel like all the pottery barn leather wears terribly (cracks and loses its form). After seeing how furniture can and should be made its hard to shop at these mass produced box stores. I save up for the investment pieces and pick classic styles that work with my transitional style…but boy does it hurt when the bill comes.
Was American Signature Home expecting us all, I wonder?
Just sitting here watching this video on my Pearce Roll Arm in Statesville Molasses, like 🫠
Still love you, Valentina! 😂
I love that big pillow you have on the couch! Where did you get that one? Not the smaller one that’s linked on Amazon… thank you!
I wonder if anyone sits in that little chair by the fireplace it looks so secluded
