So, as someone who's in their 40s, and I'm currently in school for art, but thinking about the future, do you have advice for anyone who is completely new about artist residencies? Should I work up a portfolio and/or a reputation (even if it's local to me) before even thinking about applying to a residency, or doing research on which residency would be good for me?
