Braga Portugal An Afternoon Trip to Bom Jesus do Monte + Braga's Special Dish

Sometimes you have to be a tourist in your own town. Today I decided to go up to Monte Bom Jesus do Monte, one of Braga, Portugal’s most iconic locations. I really enjoyed this little mini trip up the mountain, such a peaceful space and plenty of places to just chill out and enjoy the fresh mountain air. One of the great things about where it’s located is that it’s not far from the city center and once there you don’t have to climb all of the stairs if you don’t want. You can take a funicular cabin to almost the top of the mountain to be able to enjoy your time up there without getting exhausted before you even arrive. As someone who is living in Braga, Portugal, I’m grateful to have this location so close by. I can definitely see myself going back soon! Later in this special travel video edition of Not Your Average Globetrotter, we’ll head back into town and go to one of the famous locations here called A Brasileira to enjoy Bacalhau (Portuguese dried and salted cod) in Braga’s very own style called “Bacalhau a Braga”.

  1. Great vid. Enjoyed the scenery. I must see that when I’m there. Yum cod! Love it. Desserts of course look great. I watched this video while riding on train from Roma to Lecce. Beautiful day here. Now you made me hungry!

  2. The Funicular is so cool! They have them in Pittsburgh – which is a very vertical city – called 'Inclines.' I think only one is still operating. Braga is the only other place I've seen one.
    What a beautiful place!

  3. I loved this vlog Rafael!👏🏽 I’ve actually never been on the train, but I’ll make sure I’ll check it out next time I’m in Bom Jesus. It’s got a beautiful view.

  4. This video is SPECTACULAR. 🎉 A triple bonus—funicular ride, panoramic views from Bom Jesus, and dinner! We missed Bom Jesus late last year so this video inspires me to return asap. Great tip on the A Brasileira restaurant. Will check it out as well! Thanks for bringing out to see more of lovely Braga.

  5. This was the best vlog!! Loved it. That park was so amazingly beautiful. I was a bit worried about you because I could hear you huffing and puffing. Smart move taking that ride up the mountain. Yes you should definitely go back and film there again. Looks like so much to see. Love it when you show us around the city. Keep up the good work!

  6. Hi Rafael. I thoroughly enjoyed this walking tour. What a truly spectacular place. One of Portugals hidden gems. I haven't seen anything like this in a while. Looking forward to more. Thank you
