  2. Boris never told the British people about all these drawbacks to brexit. The queues at Dover for tourists visiting France was a real eye opener. The paperwork for truck drivers another. Boris didn’t lie, but had all this been explained, I doubt if brexit would have happened.

  3. From the USA, I don’t understand the “ex-pat” legitimacy? The UK voted to become 3 nation of immigrants in the EU. Is this a something “special” designation? You are better than the locals/EU? It comes across as arrogance from my perspective. Hopefully you speak the language of the EU country you are presently residing?

  4. It's not really a Brexit issue. Everyone seems keen to pay all manner of changes taking p!ace purely on Brexit. We have had accounts in the States for decades and in the last year we have been told that as we do not reside in the States our accounts must be closed. I agree with you Hsbc are the one bank that have been able to assist. But it's a mistake to conclude that this is a Brexit or indeed British issue. It is a global move towards tracking money digitally.

  5. HSBC is breaking up. I wonder what is the general view on Sanchez proposing Emergency Law where PRIVATE PROPERTY can be taken for public use during state of emergency. I am worried about becoming homeless, as we have THE ONLY HOME in Spain. Not law yet, but is proposed.ANY THOUGHTs?

  6. I’ve maintained my Barclays account since I moved to Spain in 2005. My advise would be to speak to your Bankers as they know your personal circumstances, they are not stupid people and using an accommodation address in the UK, with the slightly different use you will give your account, may well be picked up. If you have Residencia in Spain, make sure any income paid in the UK is paid gross, otherwise you may be taxed twice on your income, because Hacienda and the UK Tax Authorities do communicate.

  7. Ah yes! The “benefits” of Brexit. Remember how you were conned. And don’t forget the conmen. The British Parliament has always been sovereign. It was sovereign when Britain was in the EU and it is sovereign now that Britain has left the EU. But it is no more or less sovereign now than it was then and those who tell you it is, don’t know what they are talking about or are conmen and women.

  8. It's hard enough to open a bank account in the UK if you live in the UK with all the Westminster red tape that assumes everyone has photo ID, a proper address, references, no mental health conditions etc. I have had to help people through the process many, many times in the role of advocate or advisor.

  9. Brexit has caused a lot of issues for everyone, the government got lucky with a pandemic and then the Ukraine war which are their stock excuses for policy failure, when they're not blaming the EU, President Macron, remainers, Pinky n Perky and everyone else.
