Not only are we building a house, we’re building an off grid homestead…while we learn how to tackle each task we’ve been living a simple life in our Geodesic Dome! Living in a Geodesic Dome as our temporary home while be build this dream allows us to have the time to learn everything from plumbing to electrical so that when we’re finished it will be our dream cabin!
We’ve been on a mission to build the perfect cabin in the woods…but not just any cabin, one that meets all of our needs from food security to water to even generating our own electricity. When we first set out on building our cabin, we had planned on doing a traditional a-frame style cottage but as time went on and we did our homework we realized that if we carefully planned things we could build a cabin that won’t just last our lifetime but generations to come. The more we learned about what it truly means to live off grid and be self-sufficient, we quickly realized the importance of building a homestead…for those of you who don’t know (because we definitely didn’t), a homestead is a property with several outbuildings that all provide a separate purpose for the goal self sufficiency! We knew from the beginning that we wanted the independence that having a homestead gave us but weren’t interested in roughing it off the grid like a typical log cabin you’re used to seeing! So we dreamt up a modern twist on cabin life that will fit our needs and after all these days dreaming, it’s FINALLY happening and we can’t wait to bring you along for the ride! #offgrid #homestead #vanlife

How did we get here?
After a year of full time travel living the van life, we had to adapt when the world changed. To keep busy we’ve converted our tiny house on wheels into a fully functioning off grid tiny house that has everything we need. Realizing that none of us know how long this new normal will stick around, we made the decision that building a home here was the best decision we could make. We’ve spent the last year doing EVERYTHING involved with coordinating and planning the build ourselves as well as setting up this off grid property to be able to provide us with the the food we’ll need in the future.

Holy smokes we are still floating on cloud nine after this week!! When we set out on this adventure we truthfully planned to subcontract out the more difficult tasks and underground plumbing was DEFINITELY one of them. The fact that we were able to hustle this out AND get a A+ grade from the inspection department felt pretty empowering…What did you all think of the this week's project and the extra sneak peaks I threw in of the cabin that will eventually be here? OH also, one last question…we're toying with the idea of doing a few bonus videos throughout the summer like maybe bringing back Wednesday videos?
