Buying a Farm in Portugal – Episode 7 – We have a mid life crisis and decide to move to Portugal

On my 40th birthday I was sitting on a beach in Thailand contemplating my life and what I really wanted out of it. I hated my job and the thought of working another 20-30 years before retirement was incredibly depressing so I decided big change was necessary.

Some might call it a mid life crisis but if everyone experiences them they must be a very real thing and not something to be laughed at. Use yours to your advantage and as a tool to progress you in life.

This crisis began an amazing journey into a new life in rural Portugal 🙂

  1. Midlife awakening – it's only a crisis for the debt slavery system…and you know what that system can do!! Now is the time to make the change folks! Take control of all that goes inside you. Grow your own nutrition, take clean water from nature and not the city water that goes 8 x through people before it goes through you!

  2. I agree, it is not a crisis, it is the coming of wisdom.
For such a great change in life, one needs to have courage. I wish you much success in everything you undertake. (google translate)

  3. Plenty of us feel the same I think. If I could go back in time I would do what you're doing now … I moved to Poland from UK when I was 40. We have 4 ha here but only chickens, no livestock, so semi-homesteading as both of us work from home. I lve vicariously about farming thru my website for small farmers/homesteaders: http://www.rainwaterrunoff.com

  4. Wish you good luck!! So when we come there we can rent out a cabin for 3 months on your farm you are about to purchase and start off your business 😊😀, no kidding.

  5. I started my first business at 11 years old and then I was medically-retired at 40. I had my own motorcycle courier business until, a hit-and-run white van man took me out and I have been pretty stuffed ever since. My body is wrecked but I still manage to remain positive without anger and self-pity.
I lost my home, then my wife passed away but hey-ho life goes on!
Life is what you make it because there are too many that sit on their arse and whinge, like the world owes them a living.
I wish you both all the very best on your journey.
My uncle moved to Portugal for a decade but missed Norfolk too much, I left there at 16 with the clothes on my back to make my fortune in Manchester.

  6. Oh well its ok you get 4 weeks off now so you can go to take a poo and by the time you get back your holiday is over LOL. In all seriousness you get 4 weeks but you can't take them all at once you have to take a week every 3 months at my work. 🙁

  7. Just catching up with your vids, very interested to check all your journey sounds good as me and my partner are thinking to do the same soon traveling to Portugal in our van and look for some land our Paradise if there's any… Any advice let me know. cheers

  8. I envy you. I will watch the rest of your adventures. My husband had a bad stroke 10 years ago and I am 77 with some health issues so actually doing anything like that is far out of the question. I visited Portugal 2 years ago with my friend of 40 years, she was born in the Azores so there was no language problems. I loved it. The Roman ruins and the churches are remarkable. The people are great. So please keep the videos coming and good luck. We were software systems people and it came be draining. Felt the same way as you good luck

  9. You call it a midlife crisis, but its not a crisis. Such a harsh word for a new look on life. Its a midlife awakening/realisation there is more than the rat-race living to work, debted to the place you reside.

I admire the two of not an easy thing to do and very scary.
    Enjoy your journey.

live alot and work a little.
