Bom Dia, I am Scott. I’m 51 and ready to escape for all the reasons mentioned, particularly because I fear civil unrest and political violence here in the US. I am not sure how much $ is enough. Should I sell one property and keep the other for rental income and a landing pad / home base here in the states or sell them both. Doing it by myself is a little scary but I must escape for my sanity and well being.

Well, some good news. Parity for the US dollar and the euro. Also, we will get a good Social Security COLA in 2023. Otherwise it is pretty awful in the economy. I am hoping to buy something…before it is too late.
I'll buy a little studio if I don't get the mortgage I want for a larger property. We'll see. I'm a week away from submitting my D7 application. It's getting close.
Hi Alan, Leslie and Wolf, I Agree! The strength of the US dollar is quite advantageous now. Hopefully it’s strength will last another 6-9 months! We are moving in early 2023 to the mainland. Our property search will begin in earnest. By the way, we are seeing more and more properties with a Red Arrow which means prices are dropping in some areas. People need not panic. Make your plan, execute your plan and don’t Over Pay for a property. Another very successful YouTuber reminds us to always offer lower than asking as many property prices are inflated. We are right a 5 years from retirement but already deep into researching and planning, hoping we will still be healthy enough to make our dreams come true with the final chapter of our lives in Portugal.
Glad to see how confident you are nowadays in those narrow roads. Obviously as the bug is not too wide, it suits those roads beautifully. I was in Madeira a few months ago and even for me, a native Madeiran, after being away for 10 years, I found those roads a bit nerve racking.

When interest rates/ funding costs go up and income goes down because of high inflation there's only one way the stock market and house prices will go, down sir. We also like to purchase a property on the island but my gut feeling tells me to wait for a couple of years
