  1. Thanks for making the effort, but this was really confusing with all the part of month and not living in the house exceptions. Please just one 'regular month' then maybe include seasonal differences.

  2. I think your video doesn't help understand the cost of living in the Algarve. How can you include the purchase of a couch in the monthly bill!? Also, the amount you spent for groceries and cleaner is higher than what I spend in London for two people.

  3. I don't think it's expensive at all. I understand that you bought the apartment. Aren't there other monthly expenses that go along with owning it? Real estate taxes, home owner association and or resort fees?

The car that you rent is it a short or a long term rental/ lease? What would be the cost of the car you rented if you were to buy it new?

Keep up the great work. I find myself looking forward to your next post.

  4. I think that you should disregard the infrequent purchases such as the sofa for the purposes of coming up with a cost of living. I get by with Euro 300 per month for groceries. Your electricity fees seems very high considering you used none. Why is that? Is it connected to the resort because it is in a distant location or due to the fact that the maintenance firm imposes charges? It seems odd. In general, I lived on Euro 1200 per month and I eat out 3 times a week. That' was in Coimbra. I did not own or run a car, but I didn't live a particularly frugal life. I owned my own (non-resort) apartment in the city. Now, i also have an off grid property and the cost of living per month is likely to be closer to Euro 1000 per month, as there are no utility or water expenses and i can grow much of my own produce – though I do now need a car.

  5. Food is so much more expensive in the Algarve than in the UK; however, your food bills do sound very high. We spend around 300 euros a month for two of us, with wine, beer and a lot of cat food (for a very fussy cat). Loving your videos, by the way. Where are you based?

  6. Hi , the couch and electronics obviously increased the bill. I think going forward you won’t be buying olive oils and seasonings and other things every day so that will help too . I think as time passes and you have done all extras for the house it will become much less. It is difficult to be correct right now. You look lovely today with your 🧣 scarf – wrapped nicely and that colour looks lovely next to your dark hair. Thnx for your videos. 🌸

  7. The cost of living everywhere is becoming too much. Inflation because of 'quantitative easing' by the banks because they abused deregulation and the trust of the general public in their responsibilities.

  8. Thank you for the video. Interesting to see the standard costs of the utilities. Of course your current expenses are affected by the Must Buy Necessities for your new house and consequently the figures are a bit distorted. However,in the coming months the picture will get clearer.
I have just received some paraphernalia on buying an apartment in a Senior Living Resort in the Algarve, whilst it looked very nice,I was astounded at the prices quoted.Somehow my little brain is starting to tell me that things are not that cheap in that part of the world as I thought they would be. I stand to be corrected, however, that’s my impression.

  9. And no, I don't think your expenses are a lot. Your furniture and electronics are a 1 time purchase that you will not make again. And although your first grocery shop is expensive, it is your "get started or set up" grocery purchase, a number of the items are not going to be a weekly or monthly purchase, they will not be replenished for several months e.g. olive oil, spices, baking supplies etc. So, all in all, the "taxes" on your utilities are quite expensive but I think everyone realizes utilities and gas for the car is pricey in Portugal. It will be great to hear what your utility costs are when you are billed for a full 30 day cycle.
You are a gem for doing this, thank you, thank you 🙂

  10. Thank you for sharing. I find your utility expenses very high for December when you were not in the house. I have a property in the Alagrve and i only visit 4 weeks per year until i retire and my expenses are very low compare to yours. Enjoy the rest of your stay.

  11. I really appreciate all your practical, and very, very helpful, videos. I have been dreaming about either moving to the Algarve or at least buying a vacation home in either Central or Eastern Algarve. To hear an exact accounting of "real" expenses, both one time and ongoing, is so helpful in filling in all the unknown costs associated with living in Portugal. Thank you so much 👍🙂
