Dealing with a SNEAKY INTRUDER & Week of Varied Tasks on My Off Grid Land in Portugal

This week’s video sort of turned into a mish mash of varied tasks around my off grid, half acre here in Central Portugal… I hope you like it!

I checked a lot of jobs off my list this week including picking figs and pruning the tree, making fig jam, liberating my jalapeno plants from weedy hell and then picking and pickling them, repairing my neglected wheelbarrow, preparing a Cat Defense System (TM), and I even found time to go to the lake!

It’s been a busy but productive week as I’ve tried to take advantage of the cooler weather before the heat ramps up again this weekend. Please let me know what you think in the comments as I always love hearing from you.

Thanks for watching and, all going to plan, I’ll see you again on Sunday for a bonus episode!

  1. You could dry whole figs under the sun, that's what Med people usually do, when they do the jam, they don't mash figs, but jam whole figs, you should search online various recipes.

  2. To prevent soggy pickles and pickled peppers when hot bath processing, use Pickle Crisp. Ball makes some and it is just Calcium Chloride. You should be able to get some in Portugal.

  3. I love figs, stuffed with cream cheese and wrapped with a little bacon. Bake them until the bacon is done and then eat. DELICIOUS 😋. Have you thought about ferminting your jalapeños? They stay crisp and are a little milder than the pickled ones. I love their crunch too. Love your video.

  4. Love the video, Great content and you have leveled up your filming and editing skills. Truly.
That little jalapeño plant never had a chance, he was bushwhacked. lol
Can't wait to see the results of your pickling experiment. I hope it works. I've been using calcium chloride, it's ok but it would be nice not to have to use it.
    Stay cool! 🌬

  5. Great vlog, loved it when you get so many different tasks done. You can also dry figs but not sure how 😄
Be careful in that heat. Are you remembering to drink enough when busy at work. Those stones will look great. 💚stay safe, keep cool.
Beautiful cat, looks like it's found a new mommy. 😀

  6. Oh my I love figs! They are so expensive to buy here in Chinada when we can actually get them that is. And you have a tree right there behind you! I can only imagine how much better they taste when you get them right from your own tree.

  7. Thank you for your jalapeño recipe just a suggestion you can put some jalapeños in the fig jam for a sweet and spicy jam Thanks for another great video I like the different content that spices it up and especially for my sweet tooth 🌟🥂👍✌️🤙❤️🇵🇹❤️

  8. Tip: Get some root stimulator, you could have saved the plant by growing new roots on it, or at least make a bunch of clones from it . You just cut a branch, dip it in the root powder and let it sit in a vase with water till it grows new roots.
