Designing A Contemporary House With A Unique Architectural Exterior (House Tour)

Designed by Stukel Architecture in collaboration with AJP Constructions, Zig Zag House makes waves as a contemporary house in an environment dominated by traditional cottages. Named after its distinctively dynamic architecture, the home is a sculptural response to its Kensington site. As a contemporary house, the architecture of the home reflects the movement of water, paying homage to the waterway that cuts through the landscape connecting Centennial Park and Botany Bay.

Architecturally, the contemporary house is both impressive and bold. An overhang to the west orientation internally defines the home’s lounge, kitchen and dining spaces whilst a large blade column – inserted into the stairs – provides a solid focal point within a generous open space.

The interior design of Zig Zag House sees typical materials elevated through considered treatment. A seamless quality is inhered in the venetian plaster blade column, while a concrete wall is marked to elegantly resemble a particular grain of timber. The treatment of each material brings to the surface subtle aesthetic qualities, establishing the home as a contemporary house.

Located in the Sydney suburb of Kensington, Zig Zag House introduces 21st century architecture into the urban milieu. Visualised by Stukel Architecture and skilfully executed by AJP Constructions, Zig Zag House stands as a contemporary house that testifies to a successful design collaboration.

  1. Seems beautiful and unique design for young people but got some worry to let old people to live in there because of Feng-shui. Wrinkles top design could make bad effect for health on Feng-shui mind.

  2. The builder was obviously quite nervous in the beginning, but you can sense his confidence overcoming it when talking about details he's passionate about. A very genuine moment and shows his love and passion for his work.

  3. I’ve been watching YouTube for about 10 years and this is the first channel that feels different. Idk if it’s the piano in the back, or the slow shots, but something about these videos is so peaceful.

  4. ✝️

For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved. “He who believes in Him is not condemned; but he who does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. And this is the condemnation, that the light has come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. For everyone practicing evil hates the light and does not come to the light, lest his deeds should be exposed. But he who does the truth comes to the light, that his deeds may be clearly seen, that they have been done in God.”
    John 3:16‭-‬21

  5. Money, money, money the unspoken ingredient.
    Don't mention money.
I am not being a smart ars, but it is absolutely a most relevant ingredient.
Some say that you will never recover that part of your investment, so the question is how much % is unrecovered.
Some architecture is expensive to maintain aswell.
So this is an important topic.
And yes the shear pleasure of something done right is valuable.

  6. This channel helps me a lot in channeling my inner creativity. It motivates and inspires me to get things done. Thank you for being an inspiration, The Local Project. Continue sharing your forte!

  7. Wow, really like the architecture… personally would have gone with brighter color furniture like red, yellow or cherry on the couch and dining area…. love the column and stairs.

  8. What a mess! Seems like there’s enough ideas for 4 seperate houses but instead it’s crammed into one, making it feel forced and cluttered.

  9. dream home right here. so plush so modern so practical and purposeful in design. I've been looking at architectural designs for a couple years now and this house is it.

  10. If you feel lost in this world, or feel like there’s something more or something missing in your life; you’re right. There’s trouble in the World but Jesus has overcome it. Trust in Him and be truly set free. Free from the troubles, pains, and desires of this world. Even those things that you secretly justify even when they’re wrong, you can be set free from. Through God’s Word you will become new, not being bound to your wrong doings. May this message fill your heart, there may still be struggles, but now with God you have help and hope, from God, who knows all things. May God bless you and may you be filled with love.

  11. I like most houses being featured in this channel, but this house I am not so sure about it. Most houses being featured have simple and clean straight forward design which designed for function. But this house is a bit over the top. As many commented, the concrete pillar is oddly placed unless it has a structural purpose. And the architect seems very proud of it as so much effort making the pillar…maybe I am wrong, but I feel many features of this house are built not for functionality but to impress people.

  12. I love the interior design colours and textures they are really beautiful. But the curved roofline meeting the zigzag is a little disturbing. There doesn’t seem to be any harmony in the roof from the outside view. Otherwise beautiful house.

  13. This project kinda sucks, most the work went to the roof and feels awkward and heavy. That columns sticks right at the end of the stairs that probably was not intended.

  14. This what impress me the most about Australia not only that they are the masters of contemporary architecture at least to me but the craftsmen and the builliders are extremely precise. I think I need to come back to Australia after getting my bachelor in architecture just to learn by touring these houses for a few months. Good job well done 👏
