Does this prove you don't need expensive golf clubs ?

This is it… this is the last time this is happening on youtube…
I take on plus handicap golfer and ex challenge tour professional peter finch in a scratch match at the stunning palmares golf club, which is on the beautiful algarve coast of portugal. But there’s a twist, peter finch will be using a cheap box set of clubs, can I rise to the challenge and beat him with my expensive custom fit irons and driver or will his talent prove too much? 1. For sure you don't need "expensive" clubs, but how do you define "expensive" anyway? I think ideally if you're short of cash you at least have an old set of clubs that you can build on. I have a set of Max Fli clubs I bought over 20 years ago and the irons are okay. First I bought a modern hybrid so now I don't have to use the 3 iron and it's great off the tee (the woods are rubbish so it's a dual purpose club for me. Next because I'm not a good player and I only have 13 clubs in my bag I'm going to get a chipper, inexpensive and will save me a lot of strokes. Then I'll probably get a 3 wood, 5 wood or Driver because the woods in my existing set are difficult to use (small faces compared to modern clubs). Then I'll get a new set of irons, if and when I improve maybe I'll get a gap wedge or lob wedge and leave the chipper out of my bag.

  2. Hi Liam. It’s Bob again, with the same message as last post … your iron play is really letting you down! Keep up the good work. Really enjoy your videos!

  3. Really enjoyed that one!all the guys(except Dave of course) did great with those clubs!Dave was cussing at the clubs too much to concentrate on the game!he was fun to watch!

  4. Loved this series but I have one request. Can you make Dave play with them again? I think that might see the end of them as he'd probably snap them all in rage…

  5. a good series to watch, thank you. the driver and some of the clubs might have been on the crappy side but for the price still a good buy for a new golfer. of course you may want to swap out individual clubs for maybe a second hand club once the newcomer has played a few rounds with this set. my first set was $189. Aus with a pull bugey included. fun times way back then. cheers for another good clip.

  6. Thoroughly enjoyed the series Golf Mates!! The pros showed their class and ability to carve out a decent score with the budget clubs! Liam played true to form and gave the pros a fighting chance to win the match…….Joe did an awesome job with the filming and edits too – thanks guys!

  7. Wonderful idea Liam. Terrific pros gathered to play the clubs. Simon said it best "a good tradesman, never blames his tools." Great playing Pete. Good players can play and score with any clubs. Well done Joe filming and editing the entire series!

  8. It's the player, not the equipment. I'd love to see an instructional video from Pete on how he shallows the club. He does that as well as anyone I've seen.

  9. Liam, is there a reason you are not following through and finishing high in your swing? You are only going halfway in the follow through. I've noticed this half swing in several of your videos.
