“A very nervous afternoon the Bombeiros deployed a command centre on top of the mountain as the fire started to get closer to the Serra maybe less than a km. The planes have been working on it and at this moment there is huge amounts of smoke but no active flames. The command centre has now moved on. Its a very difficult time as we have fire fronts to the north east and the big one to the South East. I am hearing reports of evacuations, property loss and casualties and a possible fatality,” Gary shared with us at 21:00 on 9th July.
