PROMOTING ROTATIONAL GRAZING – As part of our annual #FoodforChange initiative in partnership with Slow Food International, we are sharing stories of regenerative practices.
Let’s travel to Malhadinha Nova in Portugal, where the Soares family shares the importance of integrating animals and cover crops on farms. At their property, Rita and João Soares offer their cattle rotational grazing, which encourages soil health allowing them to grow their grapes for their organic wines. Thanks to their practices, the grass grows deeper roots and results in enhanced carbon sequestration because the roots are continually decomposing in the ground, boosting soil biomass. The cattle (#VacaAlentejana) species they have on property was once near extinction, but now is being preserved as part of Slow Food’s #ArkofTaste.
Join us for #RegenerAction by choosing to buy your food from regenerative farms. About a third of greenhouse gas emissions come from the global food system, meaning we have the power to vote with our fork every day. And one of the best ways to make an impact is to reduce meat consumption and choose to support farms that have animal integration rather than conventional, industrial production.
