For Summer Travel in Portugal and Europe Just BE PREPARED

In this ExpatsEverywhere June live stream, Josh and Kalie talk about traveling in Portugal and Europe for summer in 2022. We discuss the most important tips about what it’s like and how you should prepare best to have a great holiday there. Please come with your questions as we’d love to answer as much as we can about traveling around the region. Travel questions will be prioritized but other questions will be answered as time permits.

We’ll “TRY” to keep the Live Stream to 45 minutes or less, but let’s see. Until then, you can start adding your questions in the comment section before we go live.

***After the live chat we will add links here of helpful resources that were mentioned!

  1. Hi Kalie & Josh!!! So good to see you guys!! I don't know if you remember me, You all helped me alot with all of our documents we needed for our Visas. We moved to Portugal last year in July and moved back to the states in October. I don't think we probably gave it enough time, and I missed my sons, but I sure miss Portugal!! The violence here in the US is just terrible and I don't see it getting better. How are you guys doing now going on 2 or 3 years?? Is Portugal home for you all going forward? Temperatures here in Texas are in the triple digits. So very hot..
    thanks Ruth

  2. when should i get my negative result for antigen test if im travelling from Spain to Portugal? Does it has to be 24h before boarding the plane? or can i take a test just before boarding at the airport?

  3. I know several Californians who have moved and are moving to Portugal but all those are happy to leave and happy to embrace the Portuguese culture…
The Azores are popular with sailers and the sailing community.
Excellent live stream… sorry I missed it!

  4. They are accepting US vaccines when you board Delta from the US. At least that is what happened to us. We were asked to either show them our vaccine card or a negative covid test at boarding. it might be different at different airlines, but that is what happened to us. We did not have to show anything when we entered Portugal.

  5. I was in Lisbon in July last year and although it was very hot it was not humid. I would love to do it again but so much flight cancelations I am concerned about this especially with TAP.

  6. As for the short term rental "law", it’s not really a law, it’s just the Supreme Court interpretation about what a condominium property can be used for under normal circumstances. Normally such a property can only be used as a home residence, not as a business (short-term rental was considered a business). Because it’s a "technicality" and not a specific regulation/law, the only way to enforce a closure is through the courts, in other words someone would have to file a lawsuit.

  7. Hi! About the train strikes you can check at CP in avisos;greve (in Portuguese). There you can confirm on which the days there will be a strike and the timetable for the mandatory minimum service trains, that is the trains that cannot strike and you can rely on (though overcrowding could be an issue).
You will never know beforehand if the other trains (not minimum service) will be on strike or not, but you can probably assume that most of them will be suppressed since that is what usually happens. (rephrased to make it more clear)

  8. Hey guys, a bit confused. I'm an EU citizen and American, but I haven't been in Europe since November 2020 during the peak of the pandemic.
I'm reading that Passenger's from Schengen countries don't need to show the digital certificate, but does that JUST mean people already in Europe traveling or does it mean Citizens of Schengen counties?. It's not very clear.

  9. We arrived on 6/8 from SFO to Lisbon. No covid test needed but vaccine cards required. Once in Lisbon took us 3 hours to get threw passport line. Total chaos! Not organized at all. Worst airport experience we’ve ever had.

  10. Im leaving for Lisbon tomorrow from the US and on United Airlines to check in I was able to upload my CDC Vaccine card instead of taking a test before departure.

  11. I must have gotten really lucky, I was just in Lisbon a few weeks ago and flew in from the US with no problems. I just walked out of the airport, no one checked any of my covid documents or anything.

Maybe its because I had a layover in Frankfurt, so technically I flew in from another EU country?

  12. When they cancel aren’t most airlines liable to rebook you on another flight or financially compensate you? I’d call my cc company and have them negotiate some sort of renumeration

  13. Great video, When looking for "affordable housing " (based on average Portuguese rental rates) , are you seeing that they almost no longer exist along the coast line and in the cities?

We are seeing that happen here in central Florida. Lots of people from the west coast and big cities are moving here. Since their rental "norms" are 2-4x higher, they jump on rentals that for us are $500-$1500 above what a local Floridian would pay. Thus driving up prices at a much faster rate.

Do you see the same happening there in Portugal? Have people just forgotten to do research and negotiate for better prices?

Again great video and channel 👍

  14. With the train strikes in Portugal, I'm wondering how much extra time I should allow myself in order to be on time for an appointment in another city. Do you think leaving a day early in order to be there on time is a good idea or is one day early not enough? Thanks
