In this off-the-cuff video Derek & Mahe talk about growing up in Hawaii as a local and as a child who moved to Hawaii.

What does “local” mean anyways?!

What can you expect for your children who will start school in Hawaii? Public or private?

These cultural adjustments and anecdotal stories are great food for thought for those who are planning to move to the islands.

TLDR: Hawaii is different than the lower 48.

  1. It’s been about 33 years since we’ve moved to Washington State from Hawaii. I’ve spent my elementary years there(‘83-‘88) Although I’ve lost my pidgin, I still feel a deep convection to Hawaii and the culture. Hopefully one day, I can own property back on Oahu ❤️

  2. I enjoyed the video and especially the idea of including private school and daily living tips (ie Grocery stores, common family activities, travel options from Hawaii). Derek that knife fight story was scary bro, hoping it has softened a little (but not too much). Maybe cover how to cure “cabin fever”. I can’t wait to get there, and looking forward to working with you guys in person! Love, respect and Mahalos!

  3. Love this episode. You make it sound like growing up in our neighborhood as a kid. Baseball and football until sundown, hide&seek under the streetlights after.
