  1. Don't miss Barcelos! They are some of the nicest people in Portugal. Guimaraes also is very nice. I left Guimaraes in a hurry because if some racial issues there but it looks like a beautiful city. Have fun!

  2. Portugal hasn't had a renaissance the last 20 years not sure where you get that from, the money it received from the EU doesnt make up for a Euro that is way too high for the local economy. Algarve was a much better place to live in 20 years ago.

  3. O 25 de abril não foi uma revolução para dar liberdade aos portugueses mas sim uma revolta de militares que não queriam ser comandados por milicianos,a população não participou na revolução

  4. When visiting Europe I often wonder what events I am probably missing out on experiencing because I'm just not there the right day of the year. It might be a national holiday, a food festival, a religious festival or maybe some other type of local community gathering or celebration.

On the occasions they are happening when I'm visiting, I am thrilled. Thanks for sharing this occasion!

  5. Great video Nick. I had no idea of the recent history, very interesting and informative.
I also noticed the men with suits all seemed to have red ties.

  6. Thank You for schooling us expats in a lil Portugese history on an important holiday! And I agree, if one plans to live here, knowing the language is of course important, but also it’s history & culture. I personally look forward to more videos broadening out from tours of Algarve towns and whether or not they have a hospital or international school lol.

  7. Awesome how your SA accent hasn't changed after 20 years 😊. Please make a video of where to buy super cheap houses thats not remote or far from the bigger cities/towns. A seet up similar to the cheap Italian villages currently selling cheap. Not a €1 home but between €10k to € 20k.
Iam aware of ruins for sale in countrysides of Portugal. Looking for something that needs cosmetics not structural renovation. I am a young Looking 52 year old South African living on Poland 🇵🇱 Looking to pay cash for a home base even if I don't live there full time. In SA am no longer a candidate for a home loan and honestly I don't want to be bound by 20 year debt, especially at my age. Want to enjoy income I earn traveling more.

  8. Portuguese has very impressive history, but having the EU flag next to the nations flag, when you remember the citizens who gave their lives for freedom of their Country over the decades is disturbing.
The EU flag should have no place on a great day, such as this.

  9. É preciso amar um país que é um dos países mais pacíficos do planeta com um hino nacional militarista e soldados a marchar nas ruas de um paraíso de férias.

  10. Thank you Nick for sharing this recent albeit important date in PT history. I’m showing my age but I recall hearing about the raise of Portuguese democracy on TV news while I was a student in Italy. It was a big deal at the time with Spain soon to follow. I didn’t recall the exact date until we saw the 25 April Bridge in Lisbon late last year—so it connected a lot of dots for me. Appreciate your work. Cheers. 👍🏻 🇵🇹

  11. Love your content Nick. We seem to follow in each other’s footsteps either a couple of days before or after you visit somewhere. No doubt at this rate we may bump into each other at some point 😀

  12. US citizens expect EVERYBODY to know the 4th of July even if they don't.
I don't know how much of the '60s culture was in Portugal, but I have often wondered if the flower culture did not play a small role in the symbology.
