Have we figured it out? 🐟💀☠️ | Eleglide M1 Plus

This week we were given a free eBike by a company called Eleglide. In return they asked me to give it a ride and let them know what I thought about it.

We revisit the Marateca dam and to try and get to the bottom of what caused all of the fish deaths over the last couple of months. If you haven’t already watched it, here is a link to the first video when we first discovered all of the dead fish:

We also give you an update on our puppy Mimosa and how she is doing with her treatments for Leishmaniosis, and our friend Stuart came and completed our new kitchen for us!

Its been a really great week here on the farm, and I hope that you are all having a good time wherever you may be. All the best & Lots of love – Ken & Gina

We are Ken & Gina. 2.5 years ago, we got fed up with paying a mortgage and having to work boring office jobs just to keep our heads above water! We decided to take a big chance, sell everything, and buy a motorhome, which we used to drive our remaining belongings and our pets to Portugal. We bought a beautiful farm in Central Portugal where we live with our 3 dogs, 2 cats and a bunch of other farm animals. Every week we release new episodes of our Portugal Farm Life where you can get an inside look at how we live and adapt to the challenges of our new lives.

  1. When you showed the dead fish the first thing I thought of was run off of chemical fertilizers from the surrounding areas farms and homes. Blue green algae is a problem in some lakes here and has even killed dogs. It’s a real problem when the areas around lakes are over developed and no longer have a natural buffer area.

  2. Another great video.the kitchen looks great I don't know if you're still going to switch around the TV and the couches? It seems that it would make the fireplace really stand out and be a focal point in your kitchen I also want to say a little prayer🙏🏽 for your dog I hope she gets better soon. As always wishing you, Gina and the fur babies the best🥰

  3. The fact that the fry are surviving in the dam right now tells you the water quality is good. So that's a good sign and one that can tell you (when you go to swim) that if there's fry… the water isn't toxic.

  4. Great video. I enjoyed watching your bike ride and swimming in the reservoir.
So happy that your dog is on the mend. What a beauty. I hope she continues.
Nice job on the finished kitchen. It looks gorgeous.

  5. Great video. I hope you both are doing well. It’s nice to see that the dam is ready for summer. Glad Mimosa is getting better. It’s been in the huh 90s here in SW florida the past few week.
With the heat does your home stay cool at all? I love warm over cold any day but I am spoiled with AC. LOL. The kitchen looks fantastic.

  6. Good to hear Mimo's doing better, big relief for you both.
Hopefully now they've cleared up the dead fish & the algae has gone the fish will be ok but the dead stork & ducks make me think avian flu might have struck the area.
In the UK it's seriously affecting seabirds right now.

  7. Nice one Ken. Glad to hear the lake is recovering it's good health and that you can, safely, enjoy a swim again. Happy to see Memo making a recovery and looking so cute, You and Gina deserve full credit. Congrats on the Eieglide freebie, you must be well chuffed about that. Take care and stay safe.

  8. Hi Ken, awesome channel and content. Make sure you gooi a lekker braai for your connection who helped with the kitchen. Have a great week. When are you doing a q & a?

  9. Call me paranoid, but If I were you, I would send a sample of that water to a friend in the UK and have them have it analyzed, to see if the local Government is on the up and up. Panic is often known to be tampered down by lying officials. Just for peace of mind.

  10. It drives me crazy when you say you’re going to go swimming “in the dam” because a dam is a man-made structure that holds back water – everywhere except in South Africa, apparently, where it also means the reservoir created by the dam! Go figure.

  11. Thank You Ken , Harriet and I thought about purchasing an ebike. We were on the fence about it. But after watching your demo, I think we will. Our challenge will be how often we will use it.
With temperatures climbing this summer. It's a good time to just chill . Cooking some tasty steaks on the barbe and having a nice cold beer and enjoying a dip in the water. Can't get better than
that. Well done, Mate. Sending you lots of love😍😍😍 Jim, Harriet and Yuki. Richmond, Va. P.S. So glad Mimoso is doing much better.

  12. Thx for the update about the fish abnormality… happy for you guys about the kitchen, we hope to have a new roof before the end of October 🤞🤞🤞 and really happy that Mimo is doing great…apart from the heat 🥵🥵🥵

  13. so the environmental agency's reply is that they don't really know? did I miss something? all is well now and go ahead until it happens again, (because it appears it happens yearly as some viewers from Portugal commentend in the video from when it happened)

  14. Livin' the life! ;o)

A couple of questions about the fish ….. Do you know if they tested for Copper? It is used to protect fruit from insect damage and could easily get into the lake via run-of! I think the testing is time dependant for that.
It does not instil confidence if they keep saying it is safe, whilst at the same time there are dead fish festooned around! Something has killed them and if they don't know what they really do not know it is safe!
I am no expert on aquifers but feel sure that it could seep into your water after quite some time. I might not be worried, but I Would be Concerned!

Glad to see the furry is getting better and the others continue to stay well!
I don't often say this, but I am a tad jealous of your situation!
All the best for You and yours!
