Great news. Love seeing China collapse! 👍
China's GDP is now forecast to increase by only 4%
I think everyone suspects that one of the major reasons that the Chinese authorities are strictly enforcing quarantine rules is because they do not believe the vaccines they developed, for the Covid-19 disease and the subsequent mutations, are effective. Another hidden motive for restricting the population is that the procedure and testing creates opportunities for the ones in control to make a profit from the restrictions.

Really happy to see you're quoting from The World of Chinese. One of the best publications about China there are.
It's like watching a train wreck in slow motion.
The ponzi scheme is starting to unravel.
But I cannot at all understand why China is doing these crazy lock downs.
Omicron is a form of vaccine – it should not be feared but rather embraced.

Many people in China are working but not being paid. investigate that one.
Question on something else around China: food. From what I understand, they usually get a TON of wheat from Ukraine, and also a TON of corn and rice from America. With war in Ukraine messing with their farming, and China not selling a lot of fertilizer to America, I don't see much of that continuing next year.
At the same time, I've heard of a lot of the silos that supposedly hold the Chinese national grain reserve mysteriously burning down instead of being inspected. I assume the food was sold off for private profit long ago, and those silos were mostly empty.
All told, from what I see, this is adding up to a VERY bad food year for China. Do you see the same? Is there something I'm missing? Is there more to it?
'watching China implode in slow motion'
we visited shanghai on my honeymoon 14 years ago. we were walking back to the hotel past a bunch of workers who had just gotten off shift from their construction site (some kind of highrise) and there was one of the ubiquitous food vendor carts selling some kind of barbecued meat that smelled wonderful. i bought two and we walked along, took a bite and realized i didnt really care for it so knelt to offer it to a stray doggy that looked very sad. my wife (who is from china) immediately said no, put the bbq in her bag and hurried me off. i knew better than to ask and followed her lead.
what i didnt see was the workers muttering angrily and moving in from behind me. they thought i was taunting them by offering food to a stray dog when they couldnt afford to eat.
that was the moment i realized we were honeymooning in hell.
reporting on China .. "if the data is accurate", "if that is to be believe", "which can be taken wit a grain of salt", etc
Australian coal producers are currently enjoying astronomical coal prices. Even with a large drop in Chinese demand, the price level will remain strong because of many countries boycotting Russian coal, oil and gas. Further, China has always had plenty of coal but chose to import high quality Australian coal because it was unable to manage its own industry well. Xi has reversed the Deng era reforms that introduced private enterprise in the coal industry and the inefficiency of state run enterprises will hamper the achievement of these politically motivated targets. When it boycotted Australian coal, China experienced an acute energy shortage, the price of coal shot up and there were blackouts. It’s plans for doubling high speed rail and front loading infrastructure will increase its energy needs (including coal) as well as support the price of iron ore and coking coal. The global food supply issue will also push up the price of Australian food exports. So I won’t be holding my breath in anticipation of China becoming self sufficient in these things and able to wean itself off Australian imports. If China were able to ban all Australian produce they would have already done so.
I always think your videos are over halfway through because you do the usual YouTuber outro then
I'd rather own property in Gitega, Kabul or Jonestown if there's even a 0.01% chance of these lockdowns happening again.
As soon as things are opened again, the virus comes back! It's not finished with us quite yet!!
Is anybody writing up a thesis about moving their production out of China to more responsible players for limiting Green House Gases? Adding more coal to their energy needs makes it an outsider to what every nations is bending over backwards for.
Friend in Shanghai PuDong on day 38, received gov't sent meat, got sick eating it, still in lockdown. Friend in Shanghai PuXi receives mean and veg on a regular basis, probably from a group buy, running out of dog and bird food, also needs medical care but can't leave her home. Both are resigned to stay in their rooms. PuDong friend estimates it'll be another month in lockdown.
