Home Real Estate HOUSE HUNTING in France Doesn't Go Well.

  1. I'm not a fan of that apartment as ots straight on the road with no garden or parking and I think it's expensive compared to other properties I've seen in France. We paid just under €39k for a house with garden garage and barns. Keep looking. You will know when you have found 'the one'! As for chateau being separated into apartments, it's a better option than them crumbling into oblivion but much prefer when they are kept as one magnificent building 😊

  2. Agree with you about splitting up chateaus on the whole. If however it is a choice between splitting them up into apartments or letting them fall into complete ruin, would go for the former.

  3. Very nice Ryan to see all these quaint little towns and interesting to see what the properties cost. Looking forward to seeing what work you're going to do on Billy's project 👍

  4. Hey Ryan! Hope you're well. As for the property search, house & garden vs apartment, etc. I think you need to consider what you are looking for. If your priority is to be right in the centre of town, you may be limited in terms of what you can get, and, I think properties are generally more expensive in the centre of town. So, I think in general, the closer you are to a town center, the less likely you are to find large properties, and, I guess, you're more likely to find apartments, studios and town houses. On the other hand, if you want a garden, etc., perhaps look at somewhere a short distance away … consider whether you are willing to drive / ride / hop a bus / train to get to the center of town & how far you're willing to travel to get there, if you find a property that meets your other requirements. Consider what you're willing to compromise on. For me personally, if the place is small (like that apartment you mentioned / showed us), I'd consider the possibility re-jigging the floor plan (if that's affordable). Basically if you could make the kitchen bigger, for example … you might have to knock down some walls. I personally have no problem with an open floor plan between the kitchen, livingroom, tv room, entrance hall, etc. It just means a bit more renovation than you might have been prepared for.

  5. Apartment for a richer older person that would live to be able to walk to the store, the park, a restaurant. The chateau should keep some of the public rooms intact for the use of everyone, gardening in the walled garden, planting citrus trees in the orangery, etc.

  6. Hello Ryan , as you were schooled here in France and speak perfect French why don’t you do some of your vlogs in French ? That would be original France seen from a English , French educated man’s point of view ,just a thought

  7. Good vlog. Cool laptops those ROGs. Interesting editing space. For splitting castles, sometimes that is the only way to keep them maintained. It happens in Scotland for smaller castles and big country houses. Better to rent these I guess. But most investors cant afford this and they go derelict. Lalande has a good business model. Requires alot of compromise and certain people and trust that though. Im sure they must have had some conflicts there. With Lalande I'm always thinking it may be survivorship bias we are seeing becasue there are not many châteaus run on that model really.

  8. Help Billy with the new property, you’ll be staying busy and saving more money for your own project when the time is right. Patience you must have, my young Padawan. ❤️
