House & Quinta Sit Alone PORTUGAL – Offgrid Life, Wine Review, Tasty Meals, Bus Travel, Lovely Pets

HOUSESITTING ALONE One of the great things about housesitting as a couple is that we can separate to cover overlapping housesits.

This is what happened in February and March, when Lee went to Praia d’el Rey to look after our favourite kitten, Tilly.

I stayed at Nazaré for another 2 weeks then went back to the offgrid quinta (small farm) near Oliveira do Hospital.

I spent a wonderful 3 weeks living without a fridge/washing machine/mains electricity, and ate so healthily!

As I don’t drive, I decided that I would stock up on dried, bottled and tinned provisions and became a pescatarian for 3 weeks, and didn’t have any alcohol!

In this video you will see:

• Review showing a delicious & incredible value Portuguese wine
• Best value restaurant in Nazaré
• Bus travel across the country
• Tasty vegetarian & pescatarian dishes
• Why I’ll never be a gourmet chef

Housesitting on my own was an excellent experience, and one that I’d definitely do again!

  1. I remember being shocked by the lack of barriers to stop you falling from heights when I first went to Portugal! I kind of got used to it, but then when I went back with a small hyper-activer toddler the fear returned!

  2. Hi, only found your channel a cpl of days ago and I’m hooked. Your so uplifting and positive. I’m working through all your past videos and currently half way through Krakow lockdown. Brilliant content, keep up the great work 👍🏻

  3. Your stay at the off grid quinta looked nice. Very much enjoyed all the lovely meals you put together with all those fresh veggies 😋.

Beautiful scenery on your bus ride back to Coimbra. Enjoyed traveling with you.

  4. The lack of barriers and hand railings in Portugal is no joke. This is something I've noticed almost everywhere I've been to date. Whether it's the cliffs of the Algarve or the walls of Óbidos, safety standards are a bit lax. When looking out at a great view, it is very welcome. However, each year there are a few people that do not heed warning signs and end up paying a steep price. When I come across situations like you show in this video, I think it's a good idea for it to be fixed as there is no warning sign and one slip can be life changing.

  5. Thanks Mandy for sharing life on the Quinta. Even with the dogs and cats I dont think I would like to be there on my own and no running hot water! We had one black cat – Rasputin, one Ginger -Oscar and several in between. We also had chickens in Katmandu but someone else did the cleaning 🙂 I did not eat chickn for some 20 years!. Must note the name of the wine, it sounds interesting. The mixed grill is enough for both of us. Must go through all your videos to work out connecting buses. Here is an asperagus recipie for you to try. 1/3 cup of lemon flavoured olive oil; 2 tbs white balsamic or white wine vinegar; 1 tbs each of choped dill, tarragon and chives and q crushed clove of garlic. salt and perrer to taste. 800g sparagus and 400g fata sliced. Mix oil, viengar and herbs and garlic in a bowl. Cook the asparagus for 1 min and drain. Arrange on a serving dish top with feta and spoon over dresing.

  6. Wow, that cooking Mandy! That was excellent. What lovely sits you get (together and those alone). Simply cannot beat the prices at Lidl. It'll be nice to see you reunited and I'm looking forward to Praia d'Rey, of course. Timeline-wise, I'm wondering if this will be your stay at Eva's. Have to wait and see 😉

  7. If was great seeing the various chores you have while sitting. I especially enjoyed your cooking as a frying pan and various veg usually works so well. I've been getting into tinned fish and find the value for money quite good with several brands here. I've been looking at frying them up and adding them as a warm protein topper to salads even.

  8. Cool video Mandy.
I booked an apartment for our Nazare stay next year and we are about 100m from that Brazilian place, so will be going there definitely.
Wow what a great experience staying at all those different housesits. Are the owners all going away on holidays?
Must remember that wine, sound right up my alley.

  9. Hi Mandy, nice video. What a nice place with lovely animals. Pity you guys couldn't share your time there together.
You surely can cook quite healthily (not for the 3 eggs n' cheese omelette though).
    U folks have a nice weekend 😉
