  1. This is (was) my first winter in Portugal and coming from the USA, where houses are super heated in the winter, was quite a change. Someone suggested to me flannel sheets and they worked wonders! Make sure to buy a good set, they are a little expensive but make a huge difference while you’re in bed. We bought ‘Lameirinho’ brand. Also bought good fleece pajamas and while watching tv at night also had thick fleece blankets. Slippers with flexible rubber sole also insulate well the cold floors. It was a quite bareable winter. Hope this helps…….Not my ideas but may help you both D

  2. very interesting facts, we are planning to relocated to PT in oktober. we are still looking for a house.. At the moment we think we will buy in Boliqueme. do you have any tips what we should avoid… looking at idealista every thing looks so beatifull

  3. Very informative so thx! So, we've been in Lisbon for a year now and got lucky on our apartment…No mold and not super cold! Winter us definitely colder, but certainly bearable! It's June and I had packed up all my winter wear, but just tonight took out a light sweater…Go figure, but with the ocean winds it happens! I use your crystals for humidity and will use a special first coat of anti-humidity treatment before painting our new home!! Lastly, good shoes are a must…Skechers for me!!!

  4. Excellent and timely! Just yesterday we discussed living (temporarily) in PT next Jan to March to understand how the winters are like in Algarve, Lisbon and Porto. I understand last winter in PT was dry so hopefully when we arrive, we'll experience a 'normal' and wet winter. ☔ This should allow us to better judge winter conditions. Thank you so much for this topic and mentioning the device for removing humidity–didn't know they exist. Cheers.

  5. Hi good to see you a small log burner costing € 250 max wood is cheap will heat many rooms also 2" polystyrene fiber board insulation is very cheap and easy to fit in your attic we are probably talking about € 300 to 500 for the materials cost for a normal attic space
