This is a step by step guide & experience applying for Indian Passport renewal in USA during late 2020, early 2021. The whole process is streamlined and for application via post ONLY due to COVID.

VFS has done a very good job of streamlining the process (4 steps)

Step 1: Go to VFS Global site to read instructions: to VFS website and figure out what category you want to apply

Step 2: Fill out the form correctly on Govt. of India website:

Step 3: Come back to VFS Website to create profile (if new) or login to fill form and make payment (with convenient method):

Step 4: Print correct documents & submit your application, documents and supported docs to VFS via Post (Fedex/UPS etc)
