I bought a New PlayHouse in Central Portugal – 1231

Since sitting at home under the corona pandemic, watching youtubers from central Portugal messing about with there plots of land and houses. I have wanted a house in Portugal, to get away from the weather in Denmark,, and to extend my summer in both ends 🙂

In this video I show you around the house I bought. It is in central Portugal with the largest city near by being Castelo Branco,, I am for obvious reasons, not going to come it any closer than that.

The land is about 7500M2 and the House 180M2 4 bedrooms 2 bathrooms and so on..

My plan right now, is to go here when I have a week or two off from work,, witch might be a while, as I have used up a lot of my vacation, looking/buying and sorting out the details. One of the dreams, would be to be able to come here, a month or two in spring and autumn,, and that way prolong summer, as those times can be dark and cold in Denmark.

  1. Congratulations, it's cheap considering how much land you are getting. Apart from the investment your house in Danmark is far from being done so now you have two dumps 🙂 and even more work to do oh boy. And please don't drag those crappy old junk energy sucking servers to Portugal. Be smart about it, get a NAS (DS920+ or QNAP or even that terramaster. Flip a couple of 20 TB disks in there, that will give you 50 TB of usuable storage, get a Intel NUC to run a hyperviser and you're good to go but still very power efficient. Ofcourse getting a decent internet connection will be important considering there probably will not be fiber anytime soon. Oh and i would definately paint the walls and doors white or something simular to get a clean and fresher more modern look. That is going to make a big difference with lighting because of the small windows.

  2. I don' know why you would want a new fridge freezer if existing one is working. I keep seeing people throw them out in videos and I can't understand why, is it just the draw of a wifi enabled fridge or something? I've never been keen on the idea of the fridge talking to the toaster to the stove to the central heating but YMMV.

Tossing out fridges all the time not good for the environment. At least relegate it to ugly room as emergency backup.

  3. Congratulations, Morten! Very nice house you got yourself👍🏼. Very neat and pleasing. Good score on the furniture you negotiated for.

Yes, once you're situated better and over your sticker shock, you'll want to have an exhaust fan installed over you cooktop burners, and more urgently install exhaust fans/outlets in your bathrooms to discourage mildew blooms. It's the cold weather there that facilitates condensation indoors when your building seems otherwise weather tight. (It's a battle with mildew if we don't keep the heat on in our wind tunnel part of San Francisco). So check your taps are fully closed and put your toilet seats down before you leave your house to minimize giving mold spores anything to work with while you're away.

Maybe consider having someone to periodically keep the green/grass trimmed short if you don't want to return to find an overgrown meadow you'll spend you visit mowing. Trimmed flora probably discourages critters from seeking refuge in your nice warm house.

I think you're going to love your CP home and alighting on your friends there.

  4. If your framed artwork is true, there will be an antenna mast and a router installation in your future? A little bit of connectivity so that you can see that the house is still there, when you are not. Then ask neighbour B what neighbour A's favourite beverage is, then bribe them both so you have someone to apply first responder's duct-tape if something bad happens. Congratulations,
