Welcoming immigrants seems fine, but I think it’s better if we deal with the root causes of immigration. Hint: you can’t talk about immigration without talking about Western imperialism and the global monopoly capitalist system that drives it.
Has your team considered submitting these findings as your own meta-analysis? Most of the ones you cite in the video cover less than 100 sources, and the peer review process would likely help refine the arguments.
Every countries rely on controlled migrant workers.. Whether they implement realistic migrant worker policy such as conservtive ex premiere of canada did in several yrs ago… A flat out 6 months in work and make money with supervised housing wages and conditions… Complete the 6 month work permit…no legal problems… Come back for a other permit… Many nato countries turn everything into a polítical football… Never addressing the issue directly… If these modern day Gladiadors stopped bombing these ppl…. driving them away from their homes and instead of spending $ destroying countries… Help your neighbors and implement a plan that does not include murdering villages of innocent ppl and stealing their recources… maybe there no football to play with…. Cheers from México!…. # we have no need for incompent life long leeches… No need for politicians/thieves

How can you say that wages are going down for the bottom 20%, and up for the top 20%, and that somehow this is "overall" a good thing? That just means the rich are getting richer, and the poor are getting poorer. That's a bad thing! There is no "overall" in this. It's like saying one guy got murdered, but one woman had a kid, so it's good overall. It's not for the murder victim, and this is not good for poor people.
great vid, Ill forward this to all the daily mail, sun, express and times readers at work who have a very different view on immigration,
thanks.
I see the "problem with immigration" as being less about the potential economic downsides and more about the political, social, and cultural impact of mass immigration. There's a kind of political and social infrastructure operating in the background of daily life that we sort of take for granted, and immigration at too high or too fast a rate I think puts stress on this system and risks overloading it. What you want is immigration at a rate that doesn't produce so much social friction that it undermines social solidarity and our sense of civil equality, which I regard as a precondition for political cooperation. What you definitely don't want is to take on more immigrants than you can successfully integrate into our existing institutions, and produce a de facto underclass of unassimilable "others" whom the native born at the bottom of the socio-economic hierarchy are forced to compete with and ultimately start to resent. That's a recipe for rightwing populist reaction — the very opposite of the class-based solidarity that is required for a more broadly egalitarian political project to succeed in the long term.
Improve the economies of Africa & Latin America and they’ll stay there!
“Bi-culturalism” is completely antithetical to multiculturalism, so I don’t know why you conflated the two (well, actually, I do).
Pew research suggests that second and third generation Muslims are more socially conservative and hold more extreme views than their first generation parents. Research in France also demonstrates this.
Also, studies show that, with the exception of recent EU immigration, immigration has been detrimental to the UK economy.
There’s so much more wrong with this video, but we’ll start there.
this was and continues to be the biggest culture shock I have as a Canadian living in Japan
Go to Croydon.
“I cherry picked 100 studies on immigration”
Immigration was the tactic rich elites found to destroy countries that were leaning left.
So now rightards can say left doesn't work.
It also give them a bigger economy and since they know natives will inevitably fight each others, it divide us even more.
And it land. Get out of your comfort zone and go talk to right wing people, you'll understand the devastatating effects of immigrations.
Immigration is a capitalist strategy. Stop biting.
This videos main message seams to be the truths irrelevant.
I think "blame the immigrants" is a boring old staple bollocks argument that incompetent politicians trot out every time they fail to serve their people and/or the economy goes tits up.
In New Zealand they import workers treat them like shit pay them less than the minimum wage now Legal in NZ, trick them into hanging around by telling them they will get residency, 5 years on No residency, there is not enough housing for anyone but the Bloated Class that own many houses, are Country is going down the drain, so Greedy Business people, can live on other peoples backs. Doctors drive Taxi's as they have to retrain to work here, unless they come from America? nothing wrong with people moving to other Country's but when it's a scam run by your Government your going to have Big Problems.
You’re just a Godless capitalist who reduces culture, history, nature, and the the world down to graphs and statistics that fit your own political views. You’re the minority as your own data proves, most people are against immigration because it’s unnatural and literally funded and promoted by NGOs and international corporations who align exactly with your beliefs yet “you’re anti capitalist”.
I want to add a little nuance to "70% of kids speak English as a second language". I used to be an ESL teacher, and kids speaking English as a second language can mean almost anything. It doesn't really describe the level or experience of these kids in either language. What's more, many of these kids end up excelling over their monolingual peers, especially in language arts, with the right guidance and attention. Multilingualism, especially in kids, can unlock a lot of cognitive avenues for complex and critical thinking 🙂
There's this economist revered by Republicans who played a role in the Reagan administration who had the perfect solution to illegal immigration – it was Milton Friedman, and his solution was open immigration.
Maybe the left could, you know, oppose immigration as well. Not that difficult…
Countries set up borders for a reason.
Yet the facts are that immigration = a fast increase in poverty, lower wages and higher crime. You could read a trillion studies and it wouldn’t change the realities. The example of the Mariel Boatlift is the funniest example because anyone who has lived in Miami at the time could tell you that the quality of life of natives COLLAPSED and it took decades for the city to recover from initial just 125,000 people at once (plus the continued immigration it brought).
What it might say on paper and what happens in reality are diametrically opposed.
Criminologists disagree with economists that poverty increases crime rates. To them it is a weak correlation.
Islamic Immigration has destroyed Europe , whether we like it or no. Future of Europe is doomed because of Islam
In Portugal immigrants working in agriculture earn less than Portuguese in the same task. However most of Portuguese do not want to do that kind of work in Portugal, they prefer to go to other European country where wages are higher.
Immigrants are not badly treated but some scams are reported and authorities have to investigate. News reports are constant and public pressure make things to improve. Many of those immigrants stay for short periods of time because they use Portugal as a entering point to go to the country they wanted to be in the first time.
Great video. I appreciate your work. I like your approach to migration policy.
However, one major contradiction that I wish would get addressed more on these topics is that of the globalization and liberalization of capital, but not of people. We are more controlled, restricted and surveilled than ever before, and at the same time capital is free to move borders with little to no restriction. What actually damages nations is the migration of capital. The rich get away with trillions of dollars, untaxed, meanwhile we’re criticizing immigrants for their contributions to tax. It does not compute.
People follow capital, this is an economic maxim. We ignore this fact when talking about migration. Why? I think it’s because that would open a can of worms about imperialism and exploitation of poor nations for the benefit of wealthier ones. The extraction has been from (quasi)colony to empire. Then pop from x colony wants to move to y empire. The media froths are the mouth with rabid hatred of pop from x colony and then the pop from y empire thus reacts. Rinse and repeat forever.
I'd be interested to know what you have found out about the status of seasonal migrants and their wages. People who are imported and exported to pick fruit or harvest crops for much lower wages than natives would prefer.
Such a useful video. Great job
nice new format for your channel
Europe is being invaded
Europe is being envases
It's underwritten the degree to which Merkel's pronouncement on multiculturalism was sinister. And it did nothing to stay the far-right rising in the teeth of an increase in migration. Nativists cannot be appeased, they must be challenged.
Unfortunately too few fascistoids will click on this video and even fewer will stay till the end.
All I learned in the past 2 years is that the majority…is usually wrong.
