New here? My name is Lea and I live with my partner Maarten, our toddler Puck and baby Bo on our land in Central Portugal. We left the rat race in the Netherlands in 2018 and moved south in our old campervan. Two years ago we bought land in Portugal that had been abandoned for several decades. After lots of hard work we now live in a beautiful yurt and keep ourselves busy growing our own vegetables as well as producing olive oil, wine and honey on a small scale. This channel documents all the different jobs we have to do, and sometimes some nice footage of this beautiful country we now call home.

Just watched your first live stream this morning and loved it…the last job I worked at was an addictions counselor and like you I am very passionate about what I did….I understand how you feel…great video and we are working out way through your videos from start to finish…love Puck and we do watch your partner's videos also…
Love the end bit when take the top off the cup mug :))))
hahahahahaha, mooi
Thank you for this walk, isn't it almost magical coming across food without a supermarket in sight, and the whispered gratitude created a mystical moment. I thoroughly enjoyed these 20plus moments and hope you take us along with you again. Thank you, love to your family. ❤❤
Excellent video. I so enjoyed going on a walk with you.
Galappels daar kun je inkt van maken!
take all the grapes 😅the best grapes are the pink
the best way to grow the wild roses (rose hips) is with cuttings small pieces. It is also faster than with the seeds. The rose always puts out well and it is very easy to make roots with it. it's nice how louis is coming with you. he likes it very much. all the best and continue to have fun exploring the wilderness. Hacia lo salvaje
Nice walk enjoyed your adventure 🤠
Heb je de GPS coordinaten genoteerd van al die plekken waar je een mooie 'forage find' had? Dan weet je waar je af en toe nog eens langs kunt om wat te scoren 🙂
Nice treck!
the thing you found on the tree is a bugalho, not for eating, it is a response to external agressions
Loved the walk.
Hope your next walks can lead you to new trails, you will get to know everything around! You can use bugalhos to make a black dye, by breaking and putting inside jar with water and a rusty nail (look for info)….we have a sayin…trocar alhos por bugalhos, when people confuse things 🤗 Abraço a todos!
those flowers are known as "Bare Naked Ladies' – Amaryllis Belladonna
That was fun 😊
Doggy will show you the way😁
There’s nothing like a nice quasi-klepto-ramble 😂
Those grapes seem way too good that someone wasn't tending them. Now they'll come back to find a bunch gone. 😢
That was a fun video, glad you made it home ok …I think these different types of formats are a nice change 🙂…I couldn't imagine coming up on grapes like that, I'd be tempted to go back for a few more bunches, how lucky!
Love your exploring. i love getting lost on purpose in the forest when I ride my horse. My friend always says "where are we going" and I say "somewhere, we will know when we get there" those pink flowers in NZ are called "Naked Ladies". Maybe because they have no leaves. Follow your dog as he will know the way home. My horse always does.
I am just heading out for a mental health walk in nature myself!!
Are you on public land? Whose land are you on? Do they know you are there and taking their grapes?
Really enjoyed being able to come along on your walk. Louis is also an enthusiastic walking companion! Beautiful!
That’s so cool to find snacks along the way I’m sure land owners wouldn’t mind since it will just go bad anyways enjoy your daily walks who knows what you’ll find
The growth on the oak tree is Oak galls. They are round tumor like growths found on various species of oak trees. The abnormal growths can appear on the leaves, stems, and branches of the tree. Normally, oak galls are just an unpleasant looking nuisance, however, the health of the tree may be impacted in more extreme cases, leading to branch dieback.
What causes oak galls?
Oak galls are the result of infestations of gall causing insects and mites. These insects inject chemicals into the tree, which produce a reaction, resulting in the formation of the galls. The galls serve as a source of food for the larvae of gall producing insects.
hermosa
Those spheres are oak galls — a small wasp lays an egg in an oak leaf bud that triggers the tree to form those balls. They harden and the wasp larvae hatches, eventually eating its way out through a tiny hole. Apparently they don't hurt the tree unless there are very many. One of those in your hand had a tiny hole. The galls are very high in tannins and ink has been made out of it for centuries since Pliny the Elder. It is made by crushing, soaking in water, and mixing in rusty nails or other iron. Turns very black.
Hi there, the balls on the Oak Tree are Oak Galls, formed by the tree in response to something called a Gall Wasp ! Fairly harmless to the tree, but interesting ! J
I was just about to suggest you carry a compass when you pulled up your location on Google maps LOLOL!
I'm old, and still have my Girl Scout vibes 🙂
As long as your coverage is that good on the wild tracks, never mind….
Glad you follow my sujestion of long walks, that's a diferent step on your videos. Hope you found an of interesting things to plant in your farm.
At 17.40 those balls called bugalhos (Português) are defenses of quercos trees, some insects sting the young tree branches and deposit an egg, the tree expel the egg producting this pointy ball. I've allready see flyes in those bugalhos, don't know if there are others.
🌟👍🍀💐
I love your stroll through the countryside. Good for you good for us. Thank you.
Can you Take me to another tour like this?
Love it!
Great video lea! Always nice sometimes to get a little lost in nature and have a snack or two provided by the land!
Beautiful, peaceful countryside. What fortune you have! Those wasp galls you found on the oak tree can be broken up, soaked, and used for a very strong black stain/dye. Since medieval times has been combined with iron to make ink.
In Portuguese we call them bugalhos, flies are born inside.
Lost in the wild, never to seen again….well, almost
Omg I would love that and pick some fruits etc that are just not looks after!!Ehag s lovely walk in beautiful nature!!Your fog certainly loved it too😊
Awesome walk and so good to help clear the head. It must work if you got lost. Oh and always bring a knife or big stick. Be Safe
The balls you found are called "bugalhos". There's an insect that stings the tree and leaves it's eggs there. As a defense, the tree grows that ball and in the middle the small offsprings will grow, protected from the exterior until they are ready to leave and continue the cycle.
Lovely 🇯🇲
Amazing and Fun video.
I think the things you found on the oak tree are what we call "oak apples," They're not fruit, but the casing where a type of gall wasp lava grows.
love the music. lol
Always carry something that you can occasionally mark your trail with or maybe kick a scuff in the dirt when you turn. That way, you can find your way back to the grapes.😋
p.s. I meant to mention in a previous video. If you turn your grating bell on its side. It will be easier, safer and less messy.
Glad that you made it back ok. ✌️
Walking is good for mental as well as physical health. I suggest you make a map of your excursions.
You found some Oak Galls, made by gall wasps. The pink flowers look like Naked Ladies but I don't know if that's what they are.
Always carry a Cell phone and on your cell always have a GPS app and a Compass app……….
